“His stance is unwavering”: Defiant United star wants to stay and fight for his place despite exit rumours – report

Manchester United goalkeeper Altay Bayindir is reportedly eager to stay at the club and force his way into the team despite suggestions he could be on the move this summer.

Since his arrival at United in September 2023, Bayindir has mostly deputised n.o 1 Andre Onana, with most of his appearances coming in cup competitions.

Last term, he made just one appearance – an FA Cup meeting against Newport County while Onana was away with Cameroon for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Ruben Amorim has utilised Bayindir slightly more, with the Turkey international playing six games so far this term across the Carabao Cup, Europa League and the FA Cup. He has yet to get a taste of Premier League action.

Bayindir took the acclaim in January as a 10-man United side beat Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium to advance to the fifth round of the FA Cup. He denied Martin Odegaard from the penalty spot in the 72nd minute and also kept out a low effort from Kai Havertz in the penalty shootout.

The 26-year-old has not featured in United’s matchday squads for the past few weeks due to injury.

There have been suggestions that Bayindir could leave United this summer in search of regular first-team minutes elsewhere. A recent report covered by The Peoples Person claimed that the shot-stopper could seek a transfer to boost his chances of playing in the 2026 World Cup.

Now, Turkish-Football report that Bayindir is indeed attracting interest from Premier League and Super Lig clubs but his priority is still staying at Old Trafford.

“Altay Bayindir has reiterated his commitment to the club, expressing his desire to secure more playing time following his recovery from injury sources revealed to Turkish-Football.”

“Bayindir acknowledges the inherent competition within a club like Manchester United and asserts he is prepared to face the challenge.”

The report adds, “Speculation regarding potential transfers to other Premier League clubs has circulated, but Bayindir’s stance is unwavering. He understands that rumors are part of the game, but his priority is to find success at Manchester United. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to play for such a prominent club and is committed to demonstrating his worth.”

Turkish-football further note that Bayindir is working hard to recover from his injury and become available for selection once again.

Amidst Onana’s poor form and mistake-strewn performances, there is a real chance for Bayindir to finally break into the team and make the starting goalkeeper spot his own.

It’s up to him to take the opportunity when it inevitably arrives. United are back in action on Thursday when they go away to Spain to face Real Sociedad in the round of 16 of the Europa League.

1/5 duels won, 0 crosses, 0 tackles: United star’s hot streak cools in toothless display for loan club

Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford struggled to make his mark as Aston Villa claimed a significant first-leg advantage over Club Brugge in their Champions League round of 16 tie.

Villa took an early lead through Leon Bailey, who produced a lovely finish to swipe the ball into the bottom corner after Tyrone Mings nodded it into his path.

Brugge didn’t trail for too long, as they restored parity soon after through Maxim De Cuyper. The left-back got into an inside position and got on the end of a good pass from Christos Tzolis to fire into the bottom corner.

The hosts were in control for large parts of the game and fashioned the better chances but they were unable to break down Villa’s stubborn defence. In the 64th minute, Unai Emery looked to his bench and made a triple change, including taking off Rashford and replacing him with Marco Asensio.

Against the run of play, Villa went ahead after Brandon Mechele sent Morgan Rogers’ cross into the back of his own net. Asensio doubled his side’s advantage from the penalty spot soon after.

Villa have one foot into the quarter-final ahead of the second leg of the tie, which will be played in Birmingham next week.

Rashford was named in the starting XI, primarily playing in his favoured left side of the attacking line. Barring a shot in the first half that was kept out by Brugge goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, the United loanee did not pose too much threat.

In comparison to how electric he has been since departing Old Trafford in January, his performance at Jan Breydel Stadium was muted.

During the time he was on the pitch, Rashford touched the ball 35 times and found his teammates with 23 of the 27 passes he attempted.

He tried to connect with one cross and one long ball. The forward failed to find his target with the cross but his long ball was successful.

Rashford embarked on just two dribbles, completing one. He also won only one of the four ground duels he contested and was beaten to the single aerial challenge he contested.

He lost possession of the ball eight times and failed to register a tackle or interception.

(Stats obtained from Sofascore)

Right now, Rashford appears most effective as an impact sub, likely still working his way back to full sharpness after his spell on the sidelines at United.

“The truth is…”: Alvaro Carreras opens up about joining Amorim’s revolution in the summer

Ruben Amorim’s arrival as Manchester United’s new head coach necessitated a shift to his favoured 3-4-3 system and the Portuguese soon found out how ill-equipped the team was to playing his style of football.

The team had very little legs in midfield and an abundance of inconsistent midfielders while there is also a lack of quality up front, with the head coach making it clear to the establishment how unhappy he was with the recruitment.

One area that needed an immediate injection of quality was at left wingback with Diogo Dalot struggling in that position while Luke Shaw remained sidelined.

There were multiple rumours linking the Red Devils with a move for their former Carrington graduate Alvaro Carreras, who is shining for Benfica this campaign.

Alvaro shining for Benfica

He has three goals and five assists and has been a standout star for the Portuguese outfit in the Champions League. His performances have generated plenty of interest from Barcelona and Real Madrid to name a few.

However, the Red Devils had inserted a buy-back option believed to be in the region of £20 million when they had sold the Spaniard last summer which makes the chase interesting.

Despite interest, United opted to go after Patrick Dorgu in January over the ex-Real Madrid youth product on Amorim’s advice.

But given the need to improve the right wing and considering the Dane’s versatility, the 20-time English league champions could still pursue Carreras in the summer.

Ahead of Benfica’s Champions League clash against Barcelona, he was asked about his former club’s interest and he confirmed that he was aware of the rumours but was focussed on the current season with Benfica.

On United’s interest

“The truth is that I’m overlooking it a bit,” he told A Bola (via Sport Witness). I’m concentrating on what I have to do, because every three days I have a game.

“There’s always interest from teams and everyone wants to grow, but I’m doing very well here (at Benfica). Manchester United have an option to buy that has been signed, but I’m very happy here.”

He is definitely a more cost-effective option than someone like Geovany Quenda but Amorim might prefer a reunion with his former protege.

Only time will tell where the former United academy star ends up at. United also hold a handsome sell-on fee which should earn them a decent amount should Benfica sell to another club.

Man Utd laugh in face of Rashford ‘slam’ as he proves not to be a total…

The idea that Marcus Rashford is trouble has long been a click machine; some will contort themselves to get Man Utd fans on board…

Rash decision
The media has long been invested in Marcus Rashford being trouble. That equals clicks. So we know why the Express have pulled this nefarious bollocks, but it does not make it any more excusable.

With Rashford playing in the Champions League with Aston Villa tonight and crisis eternally swirling around Manchester United, the time is now for gossip about the boy grown-assed man.

Which is how we get here…

‘Man Utd proven right about Marcus Rashford as Aston Villa dressing room view emerges’

Obviously what you are supposed to think is that Rashford has been a) lazy, b) a c*** or hopefully c) a lazy c***, thus proving Manchester United ‘right’ to send him out on loan.

The problem? Well apart from ‘literally everything’, is that Rashford has been neither a) nor b) and so very obviously not c). In fact, as John McGinn has said, Rashford and fellow new signing Marco Asensio are “good guys who are hungry to succeed, and they’ve worked hard”.

And that’s the ‘dressing-room view’ (we had to insert the hyphen, it was making us itch) that has ’emerged’.

So how to spin that as ‘proving Man Utd right’? Not that it matters once you have clicked, obviously.

‘Rashford’s early success at Villa Park proves the Red Devils right for backing his quality when committing to a new five-year contract in 2023, a decision for which they’ve been slammed.’

Sorry what? The best story you can muster is that Manchester United have been proved right in giving Rashford a £320,000-a-week contract almost two years ago because he “hungry to succeed” while on loan at Aston Villa?

But never mind the reasoning, count the clicks.

Naive much?
‘IT was an FA Cup weekend which showed just how far Manchester United have fallen,’ writes The Sun‘s Chief Sports Writer and – this seems important – Fulham fan Dave Kidd.

Firstly, was it balls; the Premier League table does that. But let’s hear him out…

‘In a fascinating quarter-final line-up, there are four clubs – Bournemouth, Brighton, Fulham and Crystal Palace – who have never won the Cup but who have realistic ambitions of doing so on May 17.

‘All four are infinitely smaller than United but sit above Ruben Amorim’s men in the Premier League table.

‘So when Rooney doubts United’s stated ambition of winning the title in their 150th anniversary year of 2028 – chief executive Omar Berrada’s so-called ‘Project 21’ – he is absolutely right.’

That ‘so’ is making one hell of a leap; the theory is that because Manchester United are not in the FA Cup but some measurably better sides are, Manchester United should not be targeting a Premier League win within the next three seasons?

Penny for the thoughts of Kidd in 2016 when Chelsea finished below Southampton, West Ham and Stoke and then won the actual Premier League the following season? We imagine as a Fulham fan he might feel a little sore about that. And he should certainly remember.

‘Portuguese Amorim is a searingly honest press-conference operator but he was wrong to sneer at Rooney with his ‘that is why I’m manager of Manchester United at 40’ jibe.

‘That Rooney’s managerial career has stalled after four underwhelming jobs by the age of 39 does not mean his comments lack credibility.’

It wasn’t ‘sneering’ and it wasn’t a ‘jibe’; Amorim manages a club with a plethora of former footballers being paid to voice their opinions despite no discernible managerial success and he was right to point out that being a pundit is “really easy”. It’s far easier than being the manager of a sh*tshow of a Premier League football club.

Will Manchester United win the title in the next three years? Probably not. But imagine the media reaction if they admitted that was a pipe dream? This Is Manchester United Football Club We Are Talking About, after all.

‘Are only successful football managers allowed to assess football managers?

‘Sir David Attenborough has never been a Rwandan mountain gorilla but he made a decent fist of talking about them.’

How very droll.

Seriously, are we really pretending that Amorim did not agree with Rooney’s assessment that he was being “naive” because he knew about Rooney’s rotten Championship record with Birmingham and Plymouth? What did people expect him to say? “Well of course Wayne is right…I am naive because Manchester United are proper sh*t and always will be.”?

‘The idea of United targeting the title in 2028 is nonsense.

‘Before they can even think about challenging Liverpool, Arsenal or Manchester City, they must get past that little lot of FA Cup quarter-finalists – Brighton, Bournemouth, Fulham and Palace.

‘United are not experiencing a one-season blip. They are suffering from a dozen years of rank boardroom mismanagement.

‘Would you bet on them finishing above Brighton, Bournemouth, Fulham or Palace next season?’

Yes. Absolutely. Two seasons ago Chelsea finished below three of that quartet of clubs. Last season they finished above them all and will likely do so again this season.

Welcome to football, Dave.

‘Bournemouth and Brighton are diamond miners in the global transfer market, Fulham are more adept at recycling unwanted Premier League players and at Palace it’s a mix of the two approaches.

‘But all have succeeded while United have continually failed. And these are the clubs United must surpass before they even think about challenging to be champions of England again.’

Pesky fact: Even amid all this ‘continual failure’, in a Premier League table of results since 2013, Manchester United are still sixth. And almost 200 points ahead of the next team.

Does it feel fair? No. Does it mean Manchester United – with almost quadruple the revenue of Fulham – will likely return to the top six? Afraid so, fella. Dare we say it’s a bit naive to think otherwise…

Midfield maestro’s jaw-dropping wage demand leaves United at a crossroads with summer exit looming – report

Manchester United have re-engaged in negotiations with young midfielder Kobbie Mainoo, aiming to secure his long-term future at Old Trafford after protracted discussions.

The 19-year-old, a homegrown talent from Stockport, has become a crucial part of United’s squad but remains one of the lowest-paid first-team players.

According to The Daily Mail, Mainoo’s representatives are pushing for a wage increase to £180,000 per week plus bonuses, which would bring his salary in line with that of other senior players.

United’s financial situation has added complexity to the talks.

The club faces pressure to sell players to comply with financial fair play (FFP) regulations, making academy graduates like Mainoo particularly valuable, as any transfer fee would be recorded as pure profit.

Chelsea are reportedly monitoring the situation and could make a move if United fail to secure a deal.

Manager Ruben Amorim has publicly expressed his desire to retain both Mainoo and fellow academy star Alejandro Garnacho, but he admitted financial constraints could make that difficult.

The club has already reduced its wage bill by sending Marcus Rashford and Antony out on loan, yet further player sales may be necessary to facilitate summer signings.

Mainoo is one of United’s most technically proficient midfielders, capable of recycling the ball with ease.

His unique ability to play in multiple positions in midfield makes him a key player in Amorim’s future plans.

He has been sidelined for a month with a calf injury and still has more than two years left on his current contract.

The club successfully fended off interest in both Mainoo and Garnacho during the January window, but with rival teams circling and United’s financial position under scrutiny, securing the midfielder’s long-term commitment remains a priority.

Man Utd: ‘Surprised’ Antony ‘tells’ club chief his transfer decision with INEOS set to accept 50% loss

According to one of Real Betis’ club chiefs, Manchester United outcast Antony has already let slip what he wants to do next season.

The 25-year-old joined Man Utd from Eredivisie giants Ajax during the 2022 summer transfer window for a ridiculous fee of around £86m, contributing to them being second in our five-year Premier League net spend table.

Former boss Erik ten Hag made Brazil international Antony his top target as he was keen to reunite with the winger after they worked together at Ajax.

The Dutch outfit made fools of Man Utd, who were made to massively overpay for the winger, who has proven a huge flop at Man Utd.

Antony only has 12 goals and five assists in his 96 appearances for Man Utd, and he dropped in the pecking order at the start of this season, falling to make a single Premier League start.

Old Trafford chiefs sanctioned Antony’s exit during the winter transfer window as they attempted to raise funds for additions and he joined La Liga outfit Real Betis on loan.

Antony has enjoyed a remarkable start at Real Betis, grabbing three goals and two assists in his seven appearances.

Despite this, Man Utd remain open to letting Antony leave permanently in the summer. A recent report claimed INEOS would be happy with a 50% loss as their asking price has been set at around £41m.

Now, Real Betis’ CEO Ramon Alarcon claims Antony has already informed him that he wants to commit his future to Real Betis for another year.

Alarcon said: “The other day, Antony told me that he wanted to stay another year.

“The player is very comfortable here and was surprised by the facilities we gave him to settle in the city as soon as he arrived.”

Antony and several more Man Utd players could leave this summer, as they need to sell before they can buy.

Man Utd’s budget will be boosted by the exits of four stars in the final few months of their contract as the futures of Victor Lindelof, Christian Eriksen, Jonny Evans and Tom Heaton are in serious doubt.

The Red Devils can cope without each player and a report in Portugal claims Lindlof wants a return to Benfica upon the expiry of his contract this summer.

Amorim’s transfer war-chest dwindles as United’s on-field struggles force radical change in budget – report

Manchester United are budgeting for no Champions League football for the next four years, according to reports.

As per Telegraph Sport, the Red Devils’ finances have historically been calculated on the assumption that the club would reach the Champions League knockout stages.

But as the new reality sets in, it has emerged that the United hierarchy “have accounted for the prospect of the club missing out on European qualification this season.”

An unlikely Europa League win is the only hope of bringing European football to Old Trafford next season, with a place in the Champions League the big reward for the competition winner regardless of their position in their domestic league.

Telegraph Sport claims that budgeting going forward has been “calculated under the assumption that United qualify for the Europa League for the next four years” in what is described as “a marked change” from previous budgets which have always had Champions League revenue in mind.

The newspaper notes that this unrealistic budgeting caused “concern and unease” amongst staff who were “fearful of the financial implications and knock-on effect on jobs” if the club failed to secure European qualification.

This comes against a backdrop of co-owners INEOS showing no signs of slowing their brutal job cuts, with United announcing last week that there would be up to a further 200 redundancies on top of the 250 from last summer.

The problems facing United’s accountants are making almost as many headlines as those giving manager Ruben Amorim sleepless nights.

But the decision to recalibrate budgeting going forward, which the report calls “a more prudent approach”, at least indicates some joined-up thinking in a club which seems in the depths of mismanagement.

It is painfully obvious that United are a million miles away from Champions League football right now, and the news that budgets have long been determined based on reaching the quarter-finals of that competition shows the disconnect between the on and off-field activity; the Red Devils have only made it that far twice since 2013.

Nevertheless, being realistic and being successful are very different things, something Amorim is realizing more and more each day after his latest admission that the club must sell to buy this summer.

Telegraph Sport note that “the prospect of no income from European football next season would further reduce their room for manoeuvre in the transfer window”.

United face Real Sociedad on Thursday in the first leg of their Round of 16 Europa League tie, a game which has taken on even more importance following their unceremonious exit from the FA Cup on Sunday.

Joe has spent more than half his life writing about football and all of it following United. As a child he told a doctor his name was ‘Paul Scholes’, but could never pick a pass like him no matter how much he tried.

“I don’t see that”: United legend aims pointed barb at certain stars who lack the fight to return early from injury

Manchester United crashed out of the FA Cup on Sunday and now all the eggs are in the Europa League basket with the competition the club’s last chance at qualifying for Europe next season.

Ruben Amorim is not only worried about picking his players up after the Fulham result but also has to contend with injuries to multiple key stars.

Both Leny Yoro and Harry Maguire had to be subbed off in the last game while Kobbie Mainoo, Mason Mount, Altay Bayindir, Luke Shaw all remain sidelined.

Not to mention Amad and Lisandro Martinez set to be out for the season. This has been a recurring theme in recent history and given the team’s poor form, the Portuguese is certainly feeling the heat.

Scholes on mindset needed to overcome injury

Interestingly, United legend Paul Scholes was asked about how injuries are as much a mental issue as being a physical one and he offered interesting insight about how he looked at the setback and compared it with how modern players deal with the issue nowadays.

Speaking on The Overlap, the former midfield maestro said, “I think that mentality is a big thing when people get injured. Say someone does their hamstring and the physio says it’s eight weeks, the first thing I wanted to know was what I had done, how long I’d be out, then my mentality switched to, ‘right, I’m going to beat it. I’m going to get back before it.’

“I could imagine that I was a pain in the a*** for the physios because I was always going to the physio everyday saying, ‘what am I doing today? Can I step up to the bike? When am I going outside?’

“I don’t see that in many players these days. Once you say 12 weeks hamstring, that’s it, they’re taking 12 weeks and they’re not coming back before that.”

Aimed at certain players

And certain players are definitely proof that such mentality exists in the dressing room. Take for example, Shaw, who has played a total of 98 minutes all season.

While fans empathise with his injury problems, the player had time to appear in a TikTok video amidst United’s catastrophic run of form.

Mount’s appearance with former Chelsea teammates at a recent party was yet more proof of how players tend to take things lightly nowadays. The England international has missed a mammoth 58 games in his one-and-half seasons in Manchester.

And that simply cannot continue considering the massive wages they are on which is why INEOS are mulling over moving both on in the summer.

Man Utd: INEOS eye Europa ‘at most’ for ‘four years’ after ‘concern’ sparked fresh staff ‘redundancy’ fear’

According to reports, Manchester United have ‘accounted for’ their continued absence from the Champions League to ease staff ‘concerns’.

INEOS supremo Sir Jim Ratcliffe inherited a mess at Old Trafford and has been heavily criticised since completing his takeover of Man Utd at the start of 2024.

The British billionaire initially purchased a 28% stake in the Premier League giants for around £1.25bn before upping his share to 29% for an extra £79m. As part of this deal, he took over from the Glazer family in running footballing matters at Old Trafford.

Ratcliffe has had plenty of difficult decisions to make as he’s attempted to reduce United’s debt and he’s sanctioned a major cost-cutting programme.

The 72-year-old has rapidly gone from hero to villain as he’s hiked ticket prices, sanctioned mass redundancies, scrapped Christmas benefits and payments to club legends and cut staff lunches.

Man Utd are second in our five-year Premier League net spend table and their recent struggles on the pitch have added to their misery after they failed to qualify for the Champions League last season.

The Red Devils are languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table, which is partly thanks to them sitting 14th in our calendar-year standings.

United chiefs are facing a busy few months as they look to boost their budget ahead of what could be a major squad overhaul in the summer.

Their poor performances in the Premier League are already impacting plans, according to a report from The Telegraph.

It’s claimed Man Utd are ‘budgeting without Champions League football next season’ and ‘are planning for playing in Europa League, at most, for next four years rather than Champions League’.

To ease staff ‘concerns’, Man Utd have ‘accounted for the prospect of the club missing out on European qualification this season’. The report explains:

‘United announced last week that there would be up to a further 200 job cuts on top of the 250 redundancies from last summer as part of the club’s ongoing drive to save money after pre-tax losses of £313 million in the last three seasons.

‘Budgeting going forward has been calculated under the assumption that United qualify for the Europa League for the next four years – a marked change after years of budgeting to reach the Champions League knockout stages.

‘Telegraph Sport believes this caused some concern and unease among staff fearful of the financial implications and knock-on effect on jobs if United fail to secure European qualification this term.

‘However, it has emerged that United have factored in the threat of no European football at Old Trafford next season as part of their costings.’

Man Utd: Ratcliffe told to sanction £95m double deal with PL duo tipped to ‘become heroes’ at Old Trafford

Manchester United chiefs have been urged to sanction deals to sign Southampton’s Tyler Dibling and Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap this summer.

The Red Devils are working with a limited budget and they will have to offload unwanted talents to raise funds for additions this summer.

Man Utd are already second in our Premier League net spend table and Patrick Dorgu was their only marquee signing in January, while Marcus Rashford and Antony left on loan.

A major squad overhaul is required at Old Trafford to boost Ruben Amorim, with his side sitting in the bottom half of our Premier League form table.

United are already linked with potential targets ahead of the summer, with one of their priorities likely the addition of a new striker.

Ipswich standout Delap has been mentioned as a target as the Englishman, who has ten goals and two assists in his 26 Premier League appearances this season. He is expected to leave Kieran McKenna’s side if/when they get relegated and Man City have a £40m buy-back clause.

Southampton starlet Dibling is also linked with Man Utd. The Premier League strugglers reportedly slapped a £55m asking price on their prized asset in January to ward off interest from rivals.

Ex-United player Paul Parker has explained why his former club should sign the two Premier League youngsters.

“100% Man United should look at Tyler Dibling and Liam Delap,” Parker said.

READ: Potential Amorim replacement demands two signings worth £91m to ‘accept’ Man Utd offer

“For Delap, you have to look at what Man United need, and they need a striker who is hungry and wants to prove a point.

“His dad wasn’t anywhere near being the player his son is, so I am sure he is proud of where his son is and what he is doing.

“Delap has to choose a club where he is guaranteed game time and I am sure he is looking at Man United to give him that.”

On Dibling, he added: “For Dibling, he would be looking at the Man United midfield and think to himself: I am better than all of them. He can run with the ball, he can pass the ball and he can score goals. He runs beyond as well.”

Parker has also encouraged Delap and Dibling to snub rival interest to “become heroes” at Man Utd.

“Man United should be looking at both of them, but it is also about whether they are ambitious enough to go to Man United or if they want a move to clubs who are functioning a bit better, but maybe doesn’t have the same status,” Parker added.

“But if they want to make a name for themselves, make it at Manchester United, because it will be known everywhere.

“They have the chance to change something and become heroes, and that should mean something.”
