Manchester United keeper Nathan Bishop has completed a permanent move to Sunderland for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old joined the Reds from Southend United in 2020 and most recently appeared in the friendly match with Wrexham in San Diego.

A successful loan season with Mansfield Town in 2021/22 showed his capabilities in the EFL and the Black Cats have clinched his signature ahead of their Championship opener with Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town on Sunday.

Sunderland enjoy a good relationship with United, having had Amad on loan last term, as the Ivory Coast international thrived under Tony Mowbray’s management.

Bishop will provide competition for England Under-21 prospect Anthony Patterson at the Stadium of Light, as the Wearsiders strive for promotion back to the top flight for the first time since 2016/17, following play-off disappointment earlier this year.

Londoner Bishop was on the bench four times for United in the Premier League last season and made four outings in the Papa Johns Trophy.

Everybody at United would like to wish a hugely popular member of the squad the best of luck at his new club. Manager Erik ten Hag presented Nathan with a shirt signed by the players after the Las Vegas friendly with Borussia Dortmund, in recognition of his contribution and service.
