Christian Eriksen is attracting interest from Turkish side Besiktas, with the Istanbul club reportedly keen to sign the Manchester United midfielder on a free transfer this summer.

The 33 year old’s contract at Manchester United expires today, the 30th June,  leaving him free to negotiate with clubs across Europe.

Turkish outlet Fotomac (via voetbalprimeur) claims Besiktas are eager to secure Eriksen’s signature and have already made their interest known.

The midfielder, who joined United from Brentford in 2022, has yet to make a final decision about his next move.

Though no agreement has been reached, talks are said to be ongoing as he weighs up his options.

Eriksen was also recently linked with a return to Ajax, where he played between 2010 and 2013. Brentford and Rangers have also been touted as potential destinations for the Denmark international.

Speaking during the recent international break, Eriksen made clear he was not rushing into any decision. “There’s nothing going on at the moment,” he said. “There is of course a lot of interest, but I am not close to an agreement with any club.”

The experienced playmaker made 28 appearances for  United last season but saw his role diminish in the second half of the campaign.

Under Ruben Amorim, it doesn’t seem likely that the Dane will get the minutes he wants.

Amorim’s ideal midfielders are aggressive and tenacious, qualities that Eriksen lacks.

At Besiktas, Eriksen would join a side looking to rebuild after a disappointing campaign in the Turkish Super Lig.

With the start of pre-season approaching, a decision on Eriksen’s future is expected imminently.

While no formal offer has been confirmed, reports suggest the Turkish club is ready to act swiftly now that Eriksen is officially a free agent.

His departure from Old Trafford would mark the end of a steady but unspectacular spell at United, where he provided experience and control but struggled to cement a regular starting place.
