Barcelona aim to thwart United’s pursuit of rampaging full-back who would thrive in Amorim’s system – report

Barcelona have reportedly stepped up their pursuit of AS Monaco defender Vanderson, with Manchester United still in the running for his signature.

United could look to strengthen the right wing-back spot this summer – a key position in Ruben Amorim’s favoured 3-4-2-1 setup. With Patrick Dorgu already signed from Lecce in January to shore up the left, attention may now turn to reinforcing the opposite flank.

A report covered by The Peoples Person last month relayed that Vanderson is a player United are interested in.

Vanderson has been linked to the Red Devils at various points of his career but needless to say, a transfer has never materialised.

A composed and capable full-back, Vanderson combines excellent positioning, relentless pressing, robust tackling, and attacking flair. He was a standout performer for Monaco once again this season, playing a key role in their third-place Ligue 1 finish and Champions League qualification.

He managed two goals and five assists in 41 appearances across all competitions. His exploits earned him a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s Brazil squad.

Earlier this month, there were suggestions that United were prepared to lodge a €30m for Vanderson.

Now, journalist Rudy Galetti has provided an update on the 23-year-old’s situation and it doesn’t look good for Amorim’s side.

According to Galetti, Barcelona have opened fresh dialogue with Monaco to explore the possibility of getting a deal for Vanderson over the line.

Galetti wrote on X, “Barcelona have made fresh contact with AS Monaco for Vanderson.”

“No formal bid yet, the Spanish club is still exploring conditions for a potential move.”

“Tottenham and Man United remain in the race.”

Vanderson has also been mentioned to be on AC Milan’s radar but Fabrizio Romano revealed that the Italian giants are just admirers of the player and nothing is advanced.
