For his part, Cunha has reportedly signed a deal tying him to the Spanish capital until 2026.

Cunha’s strong summer Cunha caught the eye during Brazil’s Olympic 2020 campaign, scoring three times and providing a further assist in his five appearances for the side. He tended to ostensibly partner Richarlison in a two striker formation, but drop deep into the “number 10” position to link the midfield and forward line.

The signing of Cunha, another slight and skillful attacker, raises questions over the future of Joao Felix, who has failed to set the stage alight since his move to Madrid in 2019. The Portuguese forward has netted 19 times in 76 appearances, but has largely played second fiddle to Luis Suarez, who found the net 21 times last season for Diego Simeone#’s side.

Cunha joins Rodrigo de Paul as the two big-money signings for the Spanish side, the pair setting Simeone and co. back a combined 58 million pounds. They are looking to conduct more business before the window closes, but largely in the outgoings department, with Saul Niguez thought to be attracting interest from Manchester United and Chelsea.
