Eddie Howe confirmed as the new Newcastle United manager Taking to social media, Newcastle United today announced the appointment of their new manager Eddie Howe.

The former Bournemouth man has been out of work since parting ways with the Cherries after failing to keep them up in the 2019/20 season but has stepped back into the hot seat, this time in the North East.

We are delighted to confirm the appointment of Eddie Howe as the club’s new head coach.

Howe watched on as his side were manful but uninspiring in their draw to Brighton and Hove Albion at the weekend, and now has the international break to try and imprint his ideas on the players already at the club.

Having worked with Callum Wilson, Matt Ritchie and Ryan Fraser before, this could be made somewhat less difficult than otherwise. Nonetheless, he will have to wait 2 weeks for his first taste of action, when his side face Brentford.

Howe’s worrying record After the confirmation of his appointment arrived, people understandably started looking towards the Magpies’ future fixtures, and one particular stat highlighted his poor record against the club’s upcoming opponents.

All told, as per Whoscored, Eddie Howe has recorded 14 wins in 85 attempts combined against Newcastle United’s next eight opponents, which include four of the so-called “big six” as well as Leicester City.

Eddie Howe’s record vs Newcastle’s next 8 opponents:

Brentford – 2 wins in 6

Arsenal – 1 win in 11

Norwich – 3 wins in 9

Burnley – 2 wins in 10

Leicester – 3 wins in 16

Liverpool – 1 win in 13

Man City – 0 wins in 10

Man Utd – 2 wins in 10

With Newcastle currently in 19th place without a win, and only kept off the bottom by virtue of goal difference, Howe is going to have to find a way to rectify this poor record, or risk losing the job he has only just been appointed to.
