Arsenal ‘want to start lifting trophies’ as Arteta drops transfer hint

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta says the club are ready for major success next season – but suggested they won’t complete significant moves in the transfer market to make it happen.

The Gunners ran Manchester City close in the Premier League title race, finishing two points off the four-in-a-row champions last season.

Arsenal did win the Community Shield at the beginning of the campaign, but their last piece of major silverware came in 2020 when they won the FA Cup.

The north London outfit have been linked with big money moves for a new striker to help get them over the line in the biggest competitions, including the likes of Benjamin Sesko, Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen.

However, in a recent interview Arteta says they have to focus on the players they already have in their squad and look to improve internally.

“We are going to try again, that’s for sure,” the 42-year-old told CNN. “Every decision we are going to make is going to help us try to be better.

“The ambition is there. The players and the staff, you can sense it. They want much more. They want to start lifting trophies and that is the next step.

“We need to look at the margins, the squad, the process we have at the football club and our methodology.

“Our focus has to be on what we already have. We have players that can still develop and that is the objective that we have.”
