Arsenal star a doubt for Liverpool clash after missing out on international tie

Arsenal face Liverpool at Anfield Arsenal’s ten-game unbeaten run will come under immense pressure immediately after the international break as they travel to Anfield to face a Liverpool side who were handed their first defeat in 25 last weekend against West Ham.

The Gunners have so far, with the exception perhaps of Leicester City, played sides that they traditionally would have expected to beat, such as Aston Villa, Brighton and Leeds United. Therefore, while the nature of the run is reassuring, it is yet to be truly impressive, and they will be looking to make a statement next Saturday evening against one of the top teams in the country.

And, to make matters trickier yet, they may have to do it without a key man.

Arsenal sweat on Thomas Partey fitness Thomas Partey was a surprise absentee from the Arsenal squad as they beat Watford in their last game, with a “thigh strain” keeping him out of action.

However, this could prove more serious than first feared, as the Ghanaian has not flown out to link up with his country, instead remaining at London Colney to get treatment on it. And now, as per Charles Watts, there is doubt he could even make the side for the clash against Liverpool.

Watts reports that Arsenal are “still hopeful” that he will be fit, although he is “highly unlikely” to fly out to represent Ghana. While there is hope, it is worrying that such an innocuous-sounding injury could have such severe repercussions.

Looking highly unlikely Partey will be involved for Ghana against South Africa on Sunday. Ghana were hoping he might be able to fly out today to link up with the squad, but he’s still at Arsenal getting treatment. Arsenal still hopeful he could be fit for Liverpool next weekend.

Given how crucial Partey is to Mikel Arteta’s side, all those of an Arsenal persuasion will be praying that Partey is passed fit to play.
