Anthony Elanga has refused to rule Manchester United out of the Premier League title race. It’s nearly 10 years since the last of the club’s 20 league championships, won in the final season of Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign. The early signs under current incumbent Erik ten Hag are that the club are finally ready to challenge in the upper echelons. Four successive league wins represent that, but a big acid test comes in their next league assignment early next month when they travel to champions and local rivals Manchester City. Winger Elanga, away on international duty with Sweden, is now a firm fixture in the first team and sees no reason why United cannot spring a shock this year – as long as the good performances keep up. Read more: United could upgrade midfield area for free next summer When asked about United’s chances of a surprise title charge, the 20-year-old told Fotbollskanalen : “It is still early to answer, but if we continue to play as we have done and win matches then you never know. “All teams have a chance to win, it’s the Premier League. [It] is the world’s biggest league. Anyone can beat anyone. We’ll see.” Ten Hag’s side sit fifth in the Premier League table having recovered from back-to-back defeats at the start of the campaign. Defensive improvements have had a huge hand in their upturn in form, having shipped just two goals in four league games. The partnership of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez has undoubtedly been one of the highlights from the opening stages of the season, though they’re set to be put to the test at the Etihad when they come up against the league’s top goalscorer, Erling Haaland.
