Fiorentina are waiting on an improved offer from Manchester United for Sofyan Amrabat after ‘rejecting’ their first bid, according to reports in Italy. United are known admirers of Amrabat, who enjoyed an excellent year with club and country. The 26-year-old starred at the World Cup as his Morocco side became the first from Africa to reach the semi-finals, while Fiorentina finished eighth in Serie A. Barcelona and Liverpool have held a long-standing interest in Amrabat, but United emerged as front-runners earlier this summer and Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness) report they have even made an offer – although it has been knocked back. The report adds that La Viola are waiting for an improved proposal. Want to join our MUFC Pro club for a totally ad-free version of the MEN’s Man United app packed with premium features? United’s pursuit of the midfielder was initially dependant on Scott McTominay’s exit, however the Scot is now expected to stay amid fears that Kobbie Mainoo could be out for two months. Elsewhere, Football Insider reports that Everton have emerged as as surprise favourites to sign Harry Maguire this summer. Maguire’s future remains uncertain after Erik ten Hag stripped him of the captaincy last month. The 30-year-old rarely featured last season and is considered fifth-choice at centre-back, with Luke Shaw even preferred. West Ham have long been touted as Maguire’s likely destination but the Hammers are unwilling to meet United’s valuation, believed to be around £30million. But now Goodison Park has emerged as a potential new home for the England international. Sean Dyche is in the market for defensive reinforcements, following the exit of Yerry Mina and Conor Coady. However the Toffees are still suffering financially after years of mis-management, so how they could afford Maguire remains to be seen. The transfer window is in full swing and United have already got their hands on two players, with Mason Mount and Andre Onana through the door at Old Trafford and Rasmus Hojlund set to follow.
