Amorim’s ‘priority target’ with 7 G/A makes final decision on anticipated January Old Trafford switch – report

Manchester United are being linked with a winter move for Inter Milan left wing-back Federico Dimarco.

Not long ago, reports surfaced suggesting United head coach Ruben Amorim was keen on Dimarco and wanted him signed once the transfer window reopens.

It was then revealed that INEOS were preparing a bid to bring the Inter and Italy wide man to Old Trafford in January.

Inter resist sale

Dimarco has made a bright start to the new season, scoring twice and providing three assists in six league games, while also setting up two goals for Italy.

His form is certainly justifying the Red Devils’ interest.

And while Inter have the chance to cash in at a respectable fee, it has now emerged that they intend to resist United’s advances.

In fact, they have already opened talks over a new deal, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the 2026–27 season.

While the Nerazzurri are pushing to tie Dimarco down, it was unclear whether he was open to renewing or if interest from M16 had turned his head.

Dimarco’s transfer stance

Italian outlet Tuttosport have now revealed the player’s thoughts on a potential January switch to United.

“[Dimarco’s] dream, in fact, remains to end his career playing for his favourite team: Inter,” the outlet writes.

“Indeed, the left-back originally from Porta Romana would even like to wear the captain’s armband one day. One step at a time.

“Meanwhile, Marotta and Ausilio intend to keep him close and are working on a contract renewal until 2029. That’s at least two years longer (although an agreement until 2030 isn’t ruled out) than the current contract, which expires on June 30, 2027.”

Dimarco’s decision will no doubt leave Amorim disappointed. He was probably already picturing how a Dimarco-Matheus Cunha combo down the left could revolutionise his side’s attacking balance.

Other options

Either way, with the 26-year-old’s stance now clear, United may have been spared a drawn-out transfer saga.

Between now and the winter window, United’s scouts can assess the left-back talent pool and identify someone who fits Amorim’s system.

That said, Patrick Dorgu could yet change Amorim’s plans. If the Dane finds consistency, United may not need to pursue another left-wing-back at all.
