Amorim provides hugely encouraging injury update that will delight United fans after insipid West Ham display

Despite taking the lead, Manchester United had to be content with only a point from their Premier League game against West Ham United at Old Trafford on Thursday. Diogo Dalot scored in the second half, and the lead was well deserved considering the domination. However, rather inexplicably, Ruben Amorim decided to go all defensive and that meant the Hammers slowly gained in confidence. And they levelled things up in the 83rd minute, much to the disappointment of the head coach as well as the players. The Red Devils had a great chance to go fifth but they squandered the golden opportunity. They are in eighth position currently, six adrift of Manchester City in second. United struggled without Matthijs de Ligt The home side had to play the game without their Player of the Month, Matthijs de Ligt, with Ayden Heaven drafted into the starting lineup in his place. Safe to say, the gamble did not pay off as the Englishman struggled on his first league start of the season. He looked nervous and picked up an early booking which forced Amorim to sub him off at the start of the second half. With Harry Maguire still sidelined, and Leny Yoro short on confidence, fans were concerned about the lineup Amorim would opt for, for the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Monday. But the Portuguese tactician allayed those fears, revealing that the Dutchman picked up a “small” knock but he expects him to return in time for Monday’s game at the Molineux. Injury update provided by Amorim “It’s tough because, if you look at that position, especially this year, it’s just Harry [Maguire] and Matta playing those positions. “It is a setback. He is performing exceptionally well. For Matta, it is a small thing. I expect to have Matthijs next game [at Molineux].” The Netherlands international has been an ever-present member of the backline, starting all 12 league games before this. Which explains what a huge miss he was. Amorim has three days to right the wrongs of Thursday. Hopefully, with Matthijs de Ligt back at the heart of the defence, the 20-time English league champions can put on a better show against bottom of the barrel Wolves.
