Amorim “hasn’t closed the door” on this United star staying at Old Trafford just yet – Sky

Ruben Amorim made it pretty clear to Rasmus Hojlund where his future lies when he named his Manchester United team for their Premier League clash against Arsenal.

The Dane had made it pretty clear that he would be considering his future after the last pre-season friendly against Fiorentina, when he was not handed a single minute by the head coach.

On Sunday, the 22-year-old was not even part of the matchday squad. Despite insisting on staying and fighting for his place, the club was evidently pushing him out.

AC Milan seemed to be in pole position, but the Denmark international was not exactly enamoured by the loan with an option to buy deal.

Rasmus Hojlund wants his future sorted

He wants his future sorted, and this dilly-dallying from the Rossoneri allowed other Serie A clubs such as Napoli, and Atalanta to join the race.

There is also interest from Newcastle, and Fulham, but Rasmus Hojlund does not want to return to Manchester in a years’ time in any case.

But with a permanent deal yet to transpire, Sky Sports have now revealed that Amorim is not averse to the idea of keeping the ex-Atalanta starlet at Old Trafford.

However, the United No.9 will have to get used to the idea of playing second-fiddle to new signing Benjamin Sesko, while he is likely to see his minutes get reduced dramatically.

“It’s understood AC Milan could not convince Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund to join them under the terms of the deal on offer. Milan wanted to do a loan with an option, while Hojlund’s – and United’s preference – was a permanent deal.

U-turn on the cards?

“Napoli have also asked about Hojlund as they look for a striker to cover for the injured Romelu Lukaku. He is one of a number of options being considered.

“Hojlund initially wanted to fight for his place at United, but was then left out of the squad altogether for Sunday’s game against Arsenal.

“Head coach Ruben Amorim hasn’t closed the door on Hojlund staying at United – but the player knows he won’t be first choice following Sesko’s arrival.”

It will be interesting to see where the striker lands up once the window slams shut. A permanent deal would suit INEOS nicely, as they look to bring in further reinforcements for the Portuguese tactician.
