Amorim faces major issue as Ten Hag flop rejects return to former league despite INEOS pushing for an exit – report

Manchester United are continuing to push for Altay Bayindir’s exit this summer after offering the 27-year-old goalkeeper to another side in Turkey, according to a report.

Bayindir joined the Red Devils in 2023 in a £4.3 million deal from Fenerbahce. But he has rarely played during this time however, with Andre Onana – signed in the same summer window from Inter Milan – an ever present under both Ruben Amorim and Erik ten Hag.

When Bayindir has lined up for United in goal, he has produced shaky performances marred by mistakes.

But these displays are compounded by the fact Onana has also committed a series of high-profile errors since Amorim’s arrival in November, despite beginning last season in strong form under Ten Hag.

Amorim is believed to want a new shot stopper this summer but the club’s transfer budget will be primarily directed towards the forward line, leaving little room for an expensive goalkeeper.

United are searching for a cheaper option to replace Bayindir and provide competition for Onana, rather than an outright upgrade on the 29-year-old Cameroonian.

As such, Old Trafford executives are actively searching for a buyer for Bayindir with a return to the Super Lig on the cards after the goalkeeper’s agent approached the league’s ‘big four’ – Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Trabzonspor – over a potential deal.

However, as relayed by The Peoples Person here, the Turkish clubs collectively rejected the chance to sign him.

United have now offered Bayindir to Goztepe – another club in the Super Lig – in the hope of making room to bring in a better alternative. Their current goalkeeper, Mateusz Lis, endured a difficult season last year and Bayindir is being considered as a replacement.

But the 27-year-old United star would prefer to remain in Western Europe, according to Turkish outlet Shabah (as relayed by Sports Witness), complicating United’s plan to solve Amorim’s goalkeeping issue at Old Trafford.

Onana is expected to stay and fight for his place as first-choice next season while Tom Heaton, the third-choice goalkeeper, was confirmed to have signed a one-year extension with United this week.

It just leaves an upgrade on the number two slot on the agenda for INEOS – if they can find a new home for the current version.
