Amorim “desperate” for these two new signings after finalising Mbeumo deal – report

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has reportedly identified his next two transfer priorities as the club inches closer to confirming the arrival of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford.

United wrap up deal for Mbeumo

United finally struck an agreement with Brentford for Mbeumo after protracted talks that lasted well over a month, since it became clear that the player had chosen a switch to Old Trafford ahead of all other potential destinations.

Brentford rejected two offers from United, raising Mbeumo’s valuation after players like Anthony Elanga and Mohammed Kudus, both with fewer goals, as justification for a higher asking price.

Negotiations hit a wall for a while but last week, United lodged a third offer, which was accepted by the Bees.

It’s understood that Amorim’s side will fork out £65m plus an additional £65m in add-ons. Mbeumo is set to put pen to paper on a five-year deal with the option of extending his stay by an additional year.

The Cameroonian has already had his medical and an official announcement confirming his arrival is imminent.

According to The Mirror, Amorim is now looking to secure the services of a midfielder and a striker.

Amorim “desperate” for two new signings

The newspaper states, “United may have signed Matheus Cunha from Wolves and are close to confirming the arrival of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford after a protracted saga, but boss Ruben Amorim wants at least two more new faces, as well as needing to shift players out to raise revenue to fund those arrivals.”

“It is a squad that remains woefully short on quality in key areas, which is why the United boss is so desperate to recruit at least two more signings – a striker and a midfielder – in addition to clearing out the deadwood in Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony and Tyrell Malacia.”

The report adds that Amorim wants to work with a smaller squad next season.

This is because United will have no European football, which means fewer fixtures and a reduced demand and workload on the players.

Some of the midfielders mentioned to be on United’s radar include Eberechi Eze (Crystal Palace), Adam Wharton (Crystal Palace), Ederson (Atalanta) and Douglas Luiz (Juventus).

In terms of strikers, United’s list contains the names of talismans such as Benjamin Sesko (RB Leipzig), Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa), and Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea).
