Amorim can’t stop raving about 19yo wonderkid, he’s been dubbed the “new Rio Ferdinand” – report

Manchester United will be hoping to right the wrongs of the last campaign when they take to the field in their opening game of the season against Arsenal.

Ruben Amorim’s side have shown flashes of promise during pre-season, and fans will be hoping for to see a lot more fight from the players this time around.

One player who earned praise last season, and has looked sharp in pre-season, is Leny Yoro. The Frenchman came to Old Trafford after INEOS beat Real Madrid to his signature.

Despite being only 19, the Frenchman seems to be the real deal, calm under pressure while having the passing prowess of a seasoned professional.

Yoro has been impressive

He has been equally impressive when playing from the right, or from the left, with the head coach believing he has the quality to become the “new Rio Ferdinand” for the Red Devils.

The club legend was not only a fantastic defender, his ball-playing abilities were second to none, and coaches have been blown away by the ability shown by the ex-Lille wonderkid.

As revealed by GMS, “Plenty of players caught the eye of Ruben Amorim in pre-season but one player showed he’s emerging into the top-class star that was envisaged when he signed.

“And privately, Amorim is genuinely excited that if his progress continues, Leny Yoro, still only 19, will develop into one of the best centre-backs around.

The “new Rio Ferdinand”

“The teenager, a £52 million signing last summer, showed in pre-season why Real Madrid are kicking themselves for missing out on him a year ago.

“Although Amorim and his coaching team are working on Yoro’s defensive capabilities they have been blown away by his skill level, especially in tight spaces, and are confident he will emerge as the new Rio Ferdinand.”

Amorim loves his centre-backs to step forward from the back with the ball, or execute line-breaking passes, both of which the France U23 international is adept at.

Leny Yoro is expected to start against the Gunners on Sunday, and hopefully, he can help his side begin the new season on the front foot.
