Alexandre Lacazette emerges as shock reported January target for Barcelona

Lacazette short of Arsenal minutes French striker Alexandre Lacazette has seen his action severely limited so far this campaign with Arsenal. With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang taking a more central role in Mikel Arteta’s side, as opposed to the wide berth which he operated in last season, Lacazette has only seen 31 minutes of Premier League action, and a further 114 in the Carabao cup.

It remains to be seen just how much the forward, with ten months left on his current deal at the Emirates Stadium, is in the plans of his current coach throughout the season. However, it is thought that Lacazette is unlikely to sign a new deal in north London, meaning that he will depart on a free transfer next summer.

As per The Sun, Atletico Madrid are looking to add the Frenchman to their considerable attacking stable next summer.

However, they may be beaten to the punch.

Barcelona eyeing up shock January move Another Spanish club are apparently interested in Lacazette’s services, in the form of FC Barcelona. The Blaugrana are even considering a January move for the forward, whom they believe would be a low cost solution to their attacking woes following Martin Braithwaite’s knee injury.

As per Spanish outlet Fichajes.net, Ronald Koeman (should he remain at the helm) could look to north London in a bid to strengthen his hand in January. With Lacazette not featuring a great deal, Arsenal could well aim to recoup a minimal fee for the frontman, who set them back 48 million pounds in 2017 (as per transfermarkt).

On the flip side, however, much will depend on the step up made by both Eddie Nketiah and Folarin Balogun, as they would be the only recognised back-ups to star man Aubameyang at the Emirates. Would it be reckless to place the club’s hopes in youth once more?
