More infoScott McTominay believes Manchester United’s young guns will be ready to fire against Burnley after a winter training camp in Spain. United could face the Championship high fliers in the last 16 of the Carabao Cup on December 19 most likely missing some of their World Cup stars. But the Scotland international believes a squad featuring some of the young players who have shone over here will not let Erik ten Hag down. Alejandro Garnacho, Zidane Iqbal and Shola Shoretire are amongst the fringe players who have taken the eye in Spain, particularly in training. And McTominay has backed the younger brigade to fill in against the Clarets if Ten Hag finds his squad stretched.“It’s good for the young boys to really get that gauge for it and get that feeling that they’re really part of it and part of the training and obviously the dinners at night time everyone is integrating and stuff like that. It’s been really, really good.MUST READ: Man Utd ‘decide to sell’ underperforming Erik ten Hag flop after alarming Cadiz friendly Erik ten Hag has been told he won’t be let down by United’s youngsters by Scott McTominay (Image: Getty)“It’s been good to have a lot of the younger boys come and experience what it’s like to be with the first team. It’s important that we guide them and we help them through the training and the games.”I feel like we’ve all been training so well.”McTominay added: “We’ve got plenty of games coming up in terms of friendlies to work on that and obviously get the group back together, the core group of players who are going to be playing in the game against Burnley.“But when that game comes around, I’m sure the whole squad and the manager will be ready.”DON’T MISS Neymar ignores Brazil security worker to hug Croatian kid after World Cup heartbreakEngland boss Gareth Southgate breaks silence on Ben White and Steve Holland’s ‘bust-up’Roy Keane forced into World Cup break by ‘other pundits’ annoying him after Souness clash McTominay believes United will be ready for Burnley despite the Cadiz defeat (Image: Getty)Man Utd players were recently subjected to stinging criticism from their boss Erik ten Hag following their 4-2 friendly defeat vs Cadiz.  “It’s quite clear, we were not awake – still sleeping in the first 15 minutes,” Ten Hag told MUTV after the match. “They are a threat in transition. We have seen, second goal can’t happen. You are not awake… but especially in the midfield we can’t run off. It’s not possible, unacceptable.”The first goal is as well. A set play, bad organisation and discipline in the organisation, you concede goal. But after that, we came in the game and a penalty – I think it was a clear one – but we couldn’t make the equaliser before half-time.”He added: “The first 15 minutes, that cannot happen. That is not our standard. It should not happen. We have spoken about it but then we have to strike it, draw a line and then move on but it can’t happen in the future.”
