He is clearly advocating for Casemiro’s contract to be extended, and United would be wise to listen. Casemiro has become an integral part of Amorim’s tactical plan, forging an understanding with Bruno Fernandes that reflects the Portuguese tactician’s demands of his midfielders. If he stays, he could prove invaluable in helping new midfield recruits adapt to Amorim’s system. United do hold the option to extend his deal by a year. However, reports suggest his wages are too high. INEOS are reluctant to trigger the extension as they look to trim United’s wage bill. Yet, talks are expected over an entirely new contract, potentially involving a pay cut, though whether the Brazilian agrees remains to be seen.
