Ahead of Mbappe: Manchester United may have found a striker who is absolutely perfect for Erik ten Hag

Manchester United may have found a big reason to go for Hoffenheim striker Maximilian Beier during this summer’s transfer window.

You can never really make guarantees ahead of a summer transfer window; truly, anything can happen.

If we had to make a prediction though, we would suggest that United will be in the market for another striker this summer.

Rasmus Hojlund has shown his potential this season but the Dane certainly needs some help in the final third.

Anthony Martial will surely be moving on this summer and United may be in the market for a Bundesliga talent.

Maximilian Beier is a counter-attacking sensation

Reports earlier this week suggested that the top eight Premier League clubs are all interested in signing Hoffenheim striker Maximilian Beier.

That would include Manchester United and it’s no surprise that there is plenty of interest in Beier’s signature.

The German has racked up 12 goals in 25 Bundesliga games this season and is really emerging as a top talent.

MORE UNITED STORIES

ESPN have now published data around the top talents in Europe this season and Beier is unsurprisingly on the list.

The most interesting part is that Beier is the only player in Europe’s top five leagues to score five goals from counter-attacking situations.

The likes of Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe have hit four but Beier is ahead of both of them, showing off his counter-attacking prowess.

Beier has been hailed as ‘incredibly fast’ and he has been showing that with his speed in behind Bundesliga defences, attacking open spaces with aplomb.

Beier could be perfect for Erik ten Hag

The reason this is so interesting for United is because of Erik ten Hag’s commitment to counter-attacking.

Ten Hag stated last summer that he wants to turn United into the ‘best transition team in the world’.

The results have been mixed but when you have Hojlund, Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho in attack, we can understand wanting to use pace on the break.

Beier would be an ideal fit into that approach whilst offering the versatility to play on either flank if needed.

Of course, the big question surrounds Ten Hag’s future; will he even be the United manager for the summer transfer window?

If he is, Beier may well become a key target for that transition approach under the Dutchman.
