“A big showdown is coming” as United face off against Liverpool for this summer’s most wanted star – report

Liverpool are reportedly interested in Manchester United target Victor Osimhen.

The Red Devils are keen to bolster their attack this summer after struggling in front of goal last season.

United have been linked to numerous strikers such as Viktor Gyokeres, Hugo Ekitike and Ollie Watkins.

One forward that has long been on their radar is SSC Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

Previous reports have suggested that United have “a great chance” to sign the lethal Nigerian due to a lack of Premier League interest but this could be about to be complicated.

Journalist Sébastien Vidal has reported that United face stiff competition from their huge rivals Liverpool.

He states that due to the complexities involved in their pursuit of Alexander Isak, they have decided to shift their attention elsewhere.

It is believed that Liverpool have already “launched a shock offer to Napoli: Darwin Núñez + Federico Chiesa + £17 million to sign Victor Osimhen.”

Head coach, Arne Slot, is said to want an elite number nine and the Napoli forward certainly fits the bill.

Interestingly for United fans though, Vidal affirms at the end of his post on X that “Man Utd are also in the running” and that a “big showdown” is ahead between the two English giants.

Osimhen has turned down numerous lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia, so he may be waiting for an English suitor to take the needed steps to secure his signature.´

There have been reports of Chelsea and Arsenal also being in the mix for him, as well as the team he played for on loan last season, Galatasaray.
