Manchester United centre-back Victor Lindelof’s future remains up in the air with his current contract expiring next summer.

His recent injury record has been quite poor and new head coach Ruben Amorim has already indicated that he wants players who can handle the intensity of his system and the Swede does not look like he will fit.

The Red Devils had tried to move him on in the summer but a toe injury and the defender’s wage demands meant no deal materialised.

United have no intention of offering a contract renewal and as relayed By The Peoples Person, the Sweden international is subject of interest from quite a few Serie A clubs like Juventus and AC Milan.

Lindelof’s future

Currently on international duty, the 30-year-old spoke to Fotbolldirekt about his future and claimed that he is fully focussed on playing regularly having returned from a toe injury.

“This [transfer] is not something I think about. My focus has been to come back from the injury and play football again. But of course, there will be writings now what will happen when I am in my last year,” he said.

He has seven appearances for the Old Trafford side and has played in a multitude of positions, including at full-back as well as defensive midfield.

Lindelof does not mind as he looks to make up for lost time. In the last one-and-half seasons, the Swede has suffered multiple injuries and missed 30 games.

“My goal is always to help the team. Now I have come back, made 90 minutes at United which has been very nice. It’s a different situation for me now,” he added.

Excited to work with former teammate

Interestingly, Amorim and Lindelof were teammates at Benfica and both share a cordial relationship with the head coach sharing lunch with the defensive star on his last visit to Old Trafford.

With Amorim having the power to offer contract renewals, the Sweden international must be excited to work under him and hopefully, try and impress him with his abilities.

“I was young at the time, and we didn’t have a relationship outside of football,” Lindelof recalled. “But I’ve heard great things about him as a coach. It will be great to meet him again. It’s been many years since we played together,” he explained.

With Leny Yoro still young and Harry Maguire sidelined, Lindelof’s minutes could be on the rise for the first few weeks of Amorim’s reign.
