Denmark U18s manager Morten Esken has revealed that they’re in constant communication with Manchester United over the fitness of Chido Obi-Martin.

Obi-Martin joined United in the summer from Premier League rivals Arsenal, whose attempts to tie him down to fresh terms failed.

It’s believed that United warded off significant competition both domestically and abroad to land the teenage goalscoring sensation.

Obi-Martin’s goalscoring exploits have carried on at United, the highlight of which was a sensational hat-trick in just his second appearance for the U18s.

He has already been called up to United’s U21s and on current trajectory, it appears that it’s only a matter of time until Obi-Martin finds himself in the first team set-up.

His bid to asced to the senior squad is aided by Ruben Amorim’s arrival as head coach. During his time at Sporting Lisbon, Amorim demonstrated a willingess to give youngsters opportunities to shine. A good example of this is 17-year-old Geovany Quenda, who is already a key member of the Lions’ team.

In an interview with Tipsbladet, Denmark U18s coach Morten Eskesen revealed what the next step is for Obi-Martin on the international stage.

Eskesen also gave some insight into the striker’s fitness.

He told the publication, “It is important that the players we have in the national team play in clubs. In the end he didn’t participate because he hadn’t played for a long time. So that he was not injured, we chose that he should be built up quietly.”

“He is in a good place after being without a club for a few months. He has not played 90 minutes since he was with us in Sweden in September to play.”

“Since then he has trained for himself and has then been built up at United after he has changed there. He has not yet played 90 minutes, but he is close, and we are in close cooperation with United in relation to having all his physical data sent over, and looking at how he has played.”

Esksen added, “He wants to be able to go 90 minutes now. That’s his next step and he might do it for us in the next few games.”

Meanwhile, United return to action on November 24 when they travel to Portman Road to take on Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town.
