“i-expect…”:-van-nistelrooy-reveals-when-final-decision-over-his-united-future-will-be-communicated

Manchester United interim manager Ruud van Nistelrooy has revealed that a final decision on his future with the club will be made either today or tomorrow.

Van Nistelrooy gave this update following United’s 3-0 win over Leicester City. A Bruno Fernandes strike, an own goal from Victor Kristiansen and a superb Alejandro Garnacho finish were all United needed to secure their fourth Premier League victory of the season.

On multiple occasions since being made caretaker boss, Van Nistelrooy has expressed his intention to stay at the club and be part of Ruben Amorim’s backroom staff.

Amorim is set to officially take charge of the team on Monday and talks are expected with Van Nistelrooy to discuss among other things, whether or not he will be retained.

In his presser after the Leicester match, Van Nistelrooy told journalists that he expects to be told what will happen before the end of the day or Monday at the latest.

The former Red said, “I appreciated the clear communication of the club, that it was interim for the short term. It could’ve been one or two games even, that was the first communication, and they kept me in the loop and said okay, it’s gonna be four [matches].”

“For me, it is important to have that clarity and I appreciated that and in the end the most important thing is this football club, and I’m here to support that in my role.”

“As I said, I want to continue doing that in the future and now also the communication was after the block of four games there will be communication towards you and your colleagues who are in an uncertain situation. And I expect to hear today or tomorrow.”

When the game ended, Van Nistelrooy was serenaded by supporters, who chanted his name and applauded him for his contributions in the dugout following Erik ten Hag’s dismissal.

He seemed to appreciate this gesture from supporters and soaked it in entirely.

When asked about this, the 48-year-old remarked, “I can only describe that moment, how I felt, and as a closure of this block of four games, it felt like closure for that period and the future is open, that’s the way I felt. It was a moment, it was a beautiful moment to be able to share that with the supporters and special.”

“I felt like closing this period down, if you say it like that, and basically it was a moment here and now, and that was a beauty of the moment in my opinion, where circumstances came together. It was a beautiful moment and it was gratitude from my side to them and the reception I was able to receive was unbelievable. So I can only thank them enough.”

Up next for United is an away trip to Portman Road to take on Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town after the international break.
