Why Marcus Rashford has received a major salary increase at Manchester United – SPORF

Marcus Rashford has received a huge increase in pay despite not playing a single minute for Manchester United last season.

While the striker isn’t as fond of his childhood club as he once was, there’s no doubting he’ll welcome the boost to his bank account.

In the previous campaign, Marcus Rashford played his football at Barcelona, where he scored an impressive 14 goals and emerged with a La Liga medal to add to his trophy cabinet.

Now, according to The Telegraph, he’s received a salary increase of 25% back at Manchester United due to legacy contract issues. Despite not gracing the field at Old Trafford for the entirety of the 2025/26 season, the club qualifying for the Champions League has worked extremely well in his favour.

Rashford will now receive an increased salary of £325,000 a week. And he’s not the only person to benefit from this situation.

Andre Onana, who’s currently on loan at Turkish side, Trabzonspor, will also have a much healthier bank account in 2025/26. His salary is now £200,000 a week.

Fans react to Marcus Rashford receiving a pay rise

Upon hearing the news, Manchester United fans were quick to head to social media to voice their opinions.

One said: “Absolute joke,” while another added: “0 minutes for a 25% increase. Manchester United’s contract writing is an art form.”

A third raged: “This is laughable. Neither of them did anything to help Manchester United secure Champions League qualification.”

A fourth fumed: “This is exactly the kind of legacy contract problem that has held United back. Rashford getting bumped to £325,000 per week after contributing 0 minutes is indefensible. Rewards should reflect performances, not outdated clauses. No serious club can keep handing out elite wages without elite contributions.”
