Manchester United Women have made their second signing of the summer.
Summer of change
It has been a summer of change, with Hannah Blundell, Leah Galton, Millie Turner, Lisa Naalsund and Melvine Malard all leaving the club.
United have brought in Spanish defender Andrea Medina from Atletico Madrid. They have also signed up youngsters Layla Drury, Scarlett Hill, and Jessica Anderson to professional deals.
Second summer signing
The club have now officially announced their second signing of the window.
The official website adds, “Manchester United is pleased to confirm that Janina Leitzig has agreed to join the club, subject to registration.”
They continue, “the goalkeeper, who will wear the no.25 shirt, has signed a contract until June 2029.”

The German has spent the last three and a half seasons at Leicester City, where she won the Player of the Year and Players’ Player of the Year awards in 2023. She has also played for Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
Honour
When asked about her move to United, Leitzig could hardly contain her joy.
The goalkeeper added, “it is a real honour to be a Manchester United player. I’m ready to bring all of my experience of competing at the highest level to help the team to have a successful season.”
She continued, “I am joining a really excellent group of goalkeepers; everyone has told me about the great environment that they have created. I cannot wait to push all together to maintain the high performance standards that this club deserves.”

Leitzig will compete with Phallon Tullis-Joyce for the number one jersey and will be an invaluable back-up to the American.
Matt Johnson, the director of women’s football, explained, “Janina has proven her ability to compete at the highest level. Her experience and quality make her an excellent addition to our goalkeeping group.”
He also claimed that the keeper has the “personality and determination” to become a success at the club.
