Manchester United have confirmed that midfield prospect Sekou Kone has sealed a loan move to Lausanne-Sport, where he will spend the 2026/27 season.
Steady development
Kone has developed gradually since joining United in August 2024 from Malian side Guidars FC. United scouted him heavily before moving swiftly to secure his signature.
United handled Kone’s integration with great care, mindful of the need to give him time and space to adjust to a new country. He started with the Under-18s and climbed the academy ladder.
He was also afforded the chance to train with the first team on multiple occasions and featured in some matchday squads under now-sacked head coach Ruben Amorim. Kone featured for United in their post-season tour of Asia after the 2024/25 campaign.
The 20-year-old spent the second half of last season with Lausanne-Sport, gaining valuable experience in senior football.
Arriving at the start of February, Kone made a bright and positive start at the Swiss Super League club before he sustained an injury that sidelined him for weeks.
He returned for the summer break and featured throughout pre-season and both clubs have now confirmed that he will remain there.
Kone update
United have released a statement which reads, “Manchester United youngster Sekou Kone has agreed to join Lausanne-Sport on loan for the 2026/27 season, subject to registration.”
“Everybody at United wishes Sekou the very best of luck for the campaign to come.”
Lausanne-Sport say, “FC Lausanne-Sport announces that it has reached an agreement with Manchester United to extend the loan of Sékou Koné until June 30, 2027.”
“At only 20 years old, the young Malian has a promising profile and represents an important asset for the upcoming season.”
“FC Lausanne-Sport is delighted to be able to continue to count on the qualities of Sékou Koné for the 2026-2027 season and wishes him much success in the blue and white jersey.”
INEOS-owned Lausanne finished ninth in the Swiss Super League last season.
