Tottenham Hotspur have outmuscled Manchester United in the transfer market this summer. Early in the summer, United thought they were clear frontrunners for the signature of Mateus Fernandes, but Spurs blew them out of the water by agreeing to pay £85m to West Ham. United were reportedly only made aware of an opportunity to secure the 18-year-old winger’s services last week. Born in Croydon, south London, Thompson, an explosive right-footed winger,  stands at 6ft 2in tall.
