“I’m looking forward to it”: United’s newest star recruit pinpoints who he can learn from at new club

Manchester United completed their fourth summer signing this week in what has turned out to be a busy July. Signings Colombian midfielder Cristian Orozco has joined the academy from Fortaleza in a deal agreed last season. Karl Darlow has also joined on a free transfer from Leeds United to compete with Senne Lammens for the number one spot. Andrey Santos has been brought in from Chelsea to bolster the midfield department following the departure of Casemiro. United paid Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans’ release clause and completed a deal for the Belgian earlier this week. Excitement to work with Michael Carrick Tielemans is an experienced asset who is 29 years old and captained the Belgium national team at the World Cup. He has also played in eight consecutive Premier League seasons, meaning he has know-how of the top division in England, something Ineos clearly value according to their recent transfer history. Speaking to the club’s website, Tielemans revealed how influential Carrick was in convincing him to join. The Belgian explained that Carrick, having played in the same position as him in midfield, was extra motivation to join. Tielemans stated, “I’m looking forward to it. Obviously, him [Carrick] being a midfielder, he can give me a lot of tips and I can learn from him inside his structure.” He added, “I’m looking forward to learning from him and linking up with my team-mates.” Earlier this week, when news of a deal was breaking, images cropped up online of Tielemans facing off against Carrick in the 2017 Europa League quarter-final between Anderlecht and United. Commenting on the image, United’s newest recruit said, “I saw the picture [shaking hands with Carrick] and it was actually really funny, when we talked to each other. It was good times and, hopefully, better times now.” Youri Tielemans Stats: 2025/26 Season CompetitionAppearancesStartsGoalsAssistsYellow CardsRed CardsMinutes Played Premier League2521-4–1,863′ UEFA Europa League97232-642′ FA Cup10—-81′ EFL Cup——- Total3528272-2,586′ Featured image Stu Forster via Getty Images The Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade.
