Picture: United legend comes face-to-face with old nemesis at World Cup

Manchester United legend David Beckham has had an iconic career, first on and then off the pitch. Career Beckham came through the Manchester United academy and played 394 times for the club, scoring 85 goals. After falling out with Sir Alex Ferguson, he left for Real Madrid in 2003, where he spent four seasons. He would later have spells with Los Angeles Galaxy, AC Milan, and Paris Saint-Germain. Beckham is the owner of Inter Miami, Lionel Messi’s current team, and also joint owner of Salford City alongside Gary Neville. The legendary figure was also recently recognised with a Hollywood star in California. Blast from the past In spite of immense success, Beckham’s path has not always been easy. His 1998 World Cup will always be remembered for his sending off against Argentina, where Diego Simeone played a key role in the events. Beckham faced a huge backlash from the national media and opposition fans but used that as motivation to help Manchester United to an unprecedented treble at the time and finished second in the 1999 Ballon d’Or rankings. The United man would also get his revenge in March 1999 when Manchester United dumped Simeone’s Inter Milan out of the Champions League quarter-finals. Reunion Clearly, all of this is now water under the bridge as the two men were pictured together during the World Cup. The duo came face-to-face during Argentina’s win over Cape Verde in Miami, where Beckham owns his MLS side. David posted a photo with Diego on Instagram with the message, “bumped into an old friend in Miami.” Simeone is currently managing Atletico Madrid, a job he has carried out since 2011.
