Real Madrid on alert as United go all out to sign “the next Carrick”, gentlemen’s agreement in place for €74m deal – report

Crystal Palace gem Adam Wharton is one of the midfielders being considered for a summer move by Manchester United. On Sunday, Wharton got an opportunity to audition in front of Michael Carrick, and it is fair to say the English midfielder endured an underwhelming outing. The Palace midfielder had a positive start to the game, as his intense pressing troubled Casemiro. However, the Brazilian grew into the game, taking the spotlight away from his potential replacement. An early red card in the second half did not help the visitors. Real Madrid in race to sign Adam Wharton Regardless, Adam Wharton remains one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe, owing to his impeccable technical ability and composure in possession. Interestingly, the 22-year-old former Blackburn Rovers talent has drawn comparisons to legendary midfielder Michael Carrick. According to Defensa Central, Real Madrid chief scout Juni Calafat is trying to convince president Florentino Pérez to focus on signing Wharton. Calafat views the Palace midfielder as a “strategic” signing to bolster Real’s midfield, owing to his creative prowess, age, and immense potential. Manchester United expected to splash big money to sign Adam Wharton The Spanish outlet claims Wharton has an agreement with Palace that if a Champions League club comes calling, they will sanction his exit for €74 million. However, Real fear Wharton’s price tag could increase further due to intense competition for his services.  It is understood the likes of United and Liverpool are “going to put a lot of money on the table” to secure his signature in the summer.  As such, Los Blancos could be forced to sell to raise funds for their priority signings. Rodrygo, Eduardo Camavinga, and Federico Valverde are all facing uncertain futures in the Spanish capital.  Featured image Marc Atkins via Getty Images The Peoples Person has been one of the world’s leading Man United news sites for over a decade.
