United on alert as super-agent holds talks to seal transfer of €100m midfielder – report

Manchester United showed interest in several midfielders during the winter transfer window, but ultimately decided not to make a serious move for any of them. The word from the club’s hierarchy was that finances were available, albeit only for a long-term target. As such, the likes of Conor Gallagher and Wilfred Ndidi, despite being available, did not fit the brief. Interestingly, United reportedly explored the possibility of signing Marc Casado from Barcelona in the final days of the winter window. Manchester United interested in Marc Casado It is believed that Manchester United consider Marc Casado a “crucial opportunity”, and the Spanish midfielder’s profile “matches closely with what United are looking for: a young, energetic defensive midfielder capable of anchoring the midfield, progressing the ball, and pressing aggressively.” Due to a lack of opportunities under Hansi Flick, the 22-year-old midfielder is open to leaving his boyhood club. Casado’s contract includes a €100 million release clause, but he could be available for much less, owing to Barcelona’s financial predicament. Furthermore, his new agent, Jorge Mendes, is hoping to play a decisive role in the summer. Jorge Mendes trying to seal Casado’s exit According to Fichajes, the super agent is working on taking Casado away from Barcelona. At the moment, Mendes appears to be focused on the Saudi Arabian market, having held preliminary talks with several Saudi Pro League clubs over a summer deal for the midfielder. The Spanish outlet claims Premier League clubs are also monitoring the Barcelona talent, who is considering all options on the table. Despite their interest, United did not make a decisive move for Casado in January. However, with the Red Devils needing at least two midfielders for next season, Ineos should get in touch with Mendes, who previously helped them sign Leny Yoro from Lille ahead of Real Madrid.
