Manchester United have confirmed that Adam Lawrence has sealed a return to the club to manage the Under-21s. Successful at United Lawrence initially joined United in 2021 as the Under-16s coach. He was then promoted to head of player development for the Under-13 to Under-16 age groups. He did a good job, prompting United to place him at the helm of the Under-18s in 2023. Under Lawrence, United’s Under-18s transformed into a formidable group, the highlight of which saw them win the treble in 2023/24. His attractive, attacking, and entertaining style of play won acclaim for both the manager and the club’s promising young talent. Lawrence parted ways with United last summer. He moved to Premier League rivals Newcastle to manage their Under-21s. However, he lasted just four months, with United now confirming that Lawrence has returned to Old Trafford. United issue Lawrence statement United announced earlier on Wednesday, “Manchester United have appointed Adam Lawrence as Under-21s lead coach, until the end of the season.” “The Under-21s lead coach role was vacated when Travis Binnion joined the first-team coaching set-up earlier this month.” The statement further reads, “Darren Fletcher continues as Under-18s lead coach and will now also take on additional responsibilities by leading the Professional Development Phase (Under-17s-Under-21s) for the remainder of 2025/26.” According to the Manchester Evening News, both Lawrence and United view the appointment as mutually beneficial. Highly regarded by United, Lawrence is understood to still reside in Manchester with his family, minimising any potential disruption. United Under-21s are next in action on Monday night when they face West Bromwich Albion in Premier League 2. The Under-18s, on the other hand, are poised to make their way to Middlesbrough on Saturday 7 February.
