Official: Man United’s Ella Toone receives MBE for her services to football

Manchester United Women star Ella Toone has received an incredible honour. Glorious year Toone had to overcome some serious personal issues following the death of her father in 2024. Nonetheless, she fought back admirably to help the Red Devils secure Champions League football this season. The attacking midfielder was also a huge part of England’s Euro 2025 victory, securing her second title after the Lionesses’ success in 2022. Whilst she has not quite had the same impact for Manchester United this season, she remains a key player in the squad and will surely play a big role in 2026. Awarded an MBE As a result of her fine work over the years, Toone has received a major honour. The club’s official website reports, “it has been announced that Manchester United Women’s Ella Toone will receive an MBE as part of the New Year’s Honours list for 2026.” The site continues, “Toone is among a number of England Women players and staff that have been recognised following their success at UEFA Women’s EURO 2025.” Ella Toone MBE.@EllaToone99 has been named in the King’s New Years Honours List 🏅❤️ pic.twitter.com/mn6vPo3hY4 — Manchester United Women (@ManUtdWomen) December 30, 2025 England captain Leah Williamson was given a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire). Former Manchester United player Alex Greenwood, as well as Keira Walsh and Georgia Stanway, were also awarded an MBE like Toone. Commenting on the award, Toone stated, “to be awarded an MBE is an incredible honour and something I’m deeply proud of. Representing England and being part of a team that has won the Euros twice has helped change the landscape of women’s football, these memories will stay with me forever. Those achievements mean everything to me.” The Manchester United star also opened up on the loss of her dad. She explained, “this recognition is also incredibly personal because I want to dedicate it to my dad, who I lost to prostate cancer last year. He was my biggest supporter, from the very first kick of a ball, and I know he’d be so proud.” She also claimed that she wanted her increased fame to help raise awareness about the illness and the importance of early detection.
