PL club line up sensational replacement for United linked star as rumours continue to circulate

Manchester United were faced with a tough choice in the summer. Difficult choice Whilst the club was clear it had to upgrade in the goalkeeping department due to the inconsistent performances of Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir, there did not seem to be a clear consensus on who should replace them. There were numerous reliable reports that United made a loan move for the experienced, World Cup-winning goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez in July. There were also rumours up to the last day of the window that the Argentine was ready to complete a move to Old Trafford. Nonetheless, United decided to go in a different direction and brought in the younger Belgian, Senne Lammens, from Royal Antwerp. Positive start Despite conceding quite a few goals, most fans are probably content with how Lammens has started his United career. He has been much more stable than Onana and has pulled off some good saves, such as against AFC Bournemouth in added time to secure a point. Martinez move back on? The Argentine will face United later today when United travel to Villa Park, and Ruben Amorim addressed the club’s interest in the player during his pre-match press conference. The Portuguese head coach claimed, “we are really happy with Senne. We have a game against Aston Villa. I don’t want to comment anything else. Just focus on that. I’m really happy with the goalkeepers and I’m really happy to have Senne.” Caughtoffside reports that, “Aston Villa are almost certain to be in the market for a new goalkeeper in 2026, with speculation surrounding the future of Emiliano Martinez.” It is also suggested that they may make a move for FC Barcelona veteran Marc-André ter Stegen or James Trafford at Manchester City. The outlet also states that “Martinez continues to be linked with Man United, while there is also a possibility that he heads to Saudi Arabia or the MLS after the 2026 World Cup.” As a result, Villa are doing the groundwork now so that they are prepared when the flamboyant goalkeeper does finally move on.
