Four things we learnt as United earn morale-boosting victory over Wolves to soar up the PL table

Manchester United travelled to Molineux to face Wolverhampton Wanderers. Senne Lammens started in goal, with Noussair Mazraoui, Ayden Heaven and Luke Shaw forming the back three. Diogo Dalot started at right wing-back, while Amad occupied his usual position on the left-hand side. Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro formed their usual partnership in midfield, with Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount settling into the number ten roles. Matheus Cunha returned against his former side, playing in a false nine role. Here are four things we learnt from the match. Cunha return The Brazilian was lively in his first return to his old stomping ground. He assisted Bruno Fernandes’ goal and had an effort of his own cleared off the line. Cunha regularly caused his former side problems and was inches away from scoring a header from a corner that was deflected onto the roof of the net. The attacker will hope that this performance can help spark his season into life after a rather dull start. Bruno finally scores again The captain has not been at his goalscoring best this season. He provided four assists last month, as he was nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award. The Portuguese midfielder scored his 100th goal for the club back in September against Chelsea, but finally got back onto the scoresheet by opening the scoring at Molineux. Fernandes is playing significantly deeper this season, so it is normal that his statistics will be lower in this area. Nonetheless, he will be pleased with the return to the scoresheet. Bryan Mbeumo back on form The Cameroonian has made a great start to life in Manchester and won the Premier League’s Player of the Month award for October. He had a quiet November after scoring against Tottenham Hotspur at the start of the month. Exactly one month to the day, he netted his first goal since to restore United’s lead on the night. Mbeumo was hardly at his terrifying best but he did time his run to perfection to slide in Dalot’s pinpoint pass when his side needed him most. Mount finally finding his role The England international has had his difficulties during his Old Trafford career. This season, though, he has finally found some consistency in terms of staying fit. He scored his third goal of the season just after the hour mark and continues to grow into his ever-increasing role under Ruben Amorim.
