National team boss sets lofty challenge for “fast and aggressive” United star who has “the whole package”

Denmark boss Brian Riemer has challenged Manchester United defender Brian Dorgu to step up and take his place in the national team. Dorgu battling for starting spot at United While he has amassed 624 minutes of Premier League action so far this term, Dorgu is hardly a guaranteed starter under Ruben Amorim. Signed from Lecce in January, Dorgu started in United’s first two fixtures against Arsenal and Fulham before he dropped to the bench vs. Burnley. Amorim recalled him for the next three contests, only to bench him again in the subsequent run of matches against Sunderland, Liverpool, Brighton and Nottingham Forest. Amorim chose to use Diogo Dalot in the left-wing-back role. However, Dalot’s poor performance at the City Ground saw Dorgu reclaim his place in the team for last weekend’s 2-2 draw with Tottenham Hotspur. It’s clear the left-wing-back spot at Old Trafford is up for grabs. Currently on international duty with Denmark, Riemer spoke about Dorgu and hailed the player’s attributes. Riemer also challenged the United star to nail down a starting spot for his country. Riemer sets challenge for Dorgu Riemer told Bold, “It’s Patrick’s turn. He’s a player who deserves more playing time than I’ve given him.” “Based on his achievements, he could have received more playing time. But there is no doubt about Patrick’s qualities. He is a player who has everything.” “His physique cannot be better, he is fast and aggressive. He has the whole package, but he is still a young man and therefore has not been in the difficult situations with decisive matches.” “He has to listen carefully when we train. When you’re young, you have to adapt. Because there’s a big change in how we play and then the way Manchester United plays.” Riemer continued, “The situation regarding the left back on the national team is that the difference is very small. Patrick can, with good performances, cause me even more doubts in the future.” “That’s also how football should be. No one should be self-made. If you play, it’s because you’ve done well.” Denmark are next in action on Sunday when they face Belarus in a World Cup qualifier.
