United-linked Real Madrid gem responds to transfer speculation as January exit talk persists – report

Manchester United have been linked with Real Madrid’s Eduardo Camavinga, and the midfielder may have just told them what he thinks of swapping Madrid for M16.

United links

Not long ago, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming United, Chelsea, and Newcastle were all eyeing Camavinga.

Soon after, fresh reports suggested Newcastle had formally joined the transfer chase.

However it was not just the Magpies who joined the chase; it also emerged that Manchester City were keen on the Frenchman, with Pep Guardiola’s side reportedly willing to offer €60 million (£52 million) to win this red-hot race.

Why the persistent exit links

Camavinga has struggled with injuries at the Santiago Bernabeu in recent times, spending more time on the treatment table than on the pitch.

His last setback came in April, during Madrid’s clash with Getafe.

That injury ruled him out for the entire summer, forcing him to miss the Club World Cup. He only returned in September, featuring against Espanyol.

Extended spells on the sidelines, combined with the depth of talent at Real Madrid, have cast doubt over his chances of becoming a key cog under new head coach Xabi Alonso.

With other quality and reliable midfield options like Aurelien Tchouaméni, Arda Güler, Jude Bellingham, Federico Valverde and Franco Mastantuono, many feel the ex-Rennes man’s future lies elsewhere.

Just 154 minutes of action out of a possible 540, to some, further hints that he is not central to Alonso’s plans.

Alonso, however, has not shied away from praising the 22-year-old, not long ago calling him a top talent he is eager to work with, a move that should have scared off the midfielder’s suitors.

But if it did not, Camavinga himself has now delivered the perfect response to speculation over his long-term Madrid future.

Exit talk quashed

In an interview with TF1, he revealed:

“I’m very happy at Real Madrid.

“I’m living a dream. Not everyone gets the chance to play for the best club in the world. I have to make the most out of it.

“Will I make my mark at Real Madrid? Yes, for sure.”

As tight as the race was shaping up to be, those comments should make things clearer for INEOS.

A Camavinga chase could easily mirror the Frenkie de Jong-to-United saga.

Ultimately, it is not that the Madrid gem is not perfect for Ruben Amorim.

His versatility, athleticism, technical brilliance and top-level experience make him an ideal fit for Amorim’s project.

But judging by his own words, it is clear where Camavinga wants to play in the meantime, and it is certainly not Old Trafford.
