“A lot of work to do”: Highly impressive young coach breaks silence on replacing Amorim at Old Trafford – report

A rocky start to his first full campaign in charge at Old Trafford has left Ruben Amorim fighting for his job as Manchester United head coach.

After using a lot of credit up in the tumultuous second half of last season, a lot was expected of Amorim after a full pre season and extensive time on the training ground.

However, results haven’t improved and neither have the inconsistencies in performance levels of the players who simply aren’t suited to Amorim’s formation and style of play.

This has sent the rumour mill into overdrive with a raft of names linked with replacing the Portuguese coach in the Old Trafford hot seat.

Brighton boss on the shortlist

With the clouds showing no signs of lifting in Manchester, INEOS would be negligent not to be discussing potential successors to Amorim – and finding someone with Premier League experience could be a key to a smooth transition.

Brighton coach Fabian Hurzeler has been doing a fine job on the South Coast and is one of the names heavily linked with the post should INEOS pull the trigger in the coming weeks.

Hurzeler is widely touted as one of the finest young coaches in the game and his stint at Brighton has done no harm his reputation with the Seagulls continuing to defy the odds in the Premier League.

Does the German want the job

With the pressure mounting on Amorim, Hurzeler was asked whether he would be interested in taking the United job and remained tight lipped on the situation, insisting he is happy at Brighton, as reported by the Mirror.

“I really want to say that I have a lot of respect for Ruben Amorim so I won’t talk about his job or any rumours that might come regarding him.

“I’m really privileged to be a coach for Brighton and Hove Albion, I’m very happy here and we still have a lot of work to do,” he said.

Hurzeler is unlikely to say much more at this stage but there is little doubt the 31-year-old would be tempted by the role, should it become available.

The German is clearly an ambitious individual and his fiery personality could be just what the struggling dressing room at Old Trafford needs.

However, given his tender years, dealing with big personalities under the microscope of Manchester United has proven too much for even the most hardened of top coaches so his suitability will have to be judged carefully by INEOS.

The new minority owners are under huge pressure to deliver after what could be two managerial mishaps should they dismiss Amorim after the Erik ten Hag debacle.

Brighton sit four places above United in the Premier League table at present after an eye catching 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge this weekend placed another notable feather in Hurzeler’s cap.
