Casemiro’s fortunes have taken a 360-degree turn after a difficult initial spell under Ruben Amorim.
The Brazilian did not see a single minute of action in nine out of 13 games the new head coach was in charge of. And at that point, rumours swirled over an impending exit from the club.
However, the former Real Madrid superstar did not back down from the challenge, instead opting to work hard in the gym, while remaining professional during training.
Eventually, the Portuguese tactician was won over by the 33-year-old’s diligence, and the Brazil international has not looked back since.
Gym work details
His agent and close confidante, Oscar Ribot explained to The Daily Mail, how professional the defensive midfielder is in his life and how that has borne fruit.
“Casemiro is very methodical in his work. Gym before training and after training back at his home gym. Physiotherapy treatment as well as using hyperbaric chambers during his rest periods.
“And there is also his early bed-time. The same as every year for Casemiro – maximum professionalism. He loves to work.”
In fact, club insiders have claimed that the midfield dynamo is among the fittest players at the club. He has one of the lowest body fat percentages, owing to his extremely strict dietary preferences.
“Insiders at United have said with increasing regularity of late that Casemiro is looking leaner than ever, which has boosted his performance. He has one of the lowest reported body fat percentages of any player in Amorim’s squad.
Dietary changes
Ribot added, “He has a very strict diet. Absolutely strict to ensure he stays at a weight of 82.5 kilos.”
And what is this diet? As per the report, the Sao Paulo-born star does not consume even a tiny bit of sugar, while mainly sustaining himself on fish-centric dishes.
That is certainly playing a role in his improved performances. In fact, the five-time Champions League winner has started in all three Premier League games so far this campaign, ahead of Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo.
And he is expected to keep his place for the all-important Manchester derby later today. As the agent explained, Amorim now knows that without his “soldier”, the Red Devils will struggle in the big games.
“They have a fantastic relationship that is one of absolute respect,” Ribot added. “Amorim understands that Casemiro must always play because if he doesn’t things go worse for Manchester United.
“Casemiro is Amorim’s soldier and the two of them have great chemistry.” And the veteran is also proud of his renaissance, terming last season as one of his best, on a personal level.
On his future
However, INEOS remain keen to get rid, if reports are anything to go by, especially owing to his massive wages. However, Ribot made it clear that no such talks on his client’s future have taken place.
The full focus is on playing well for the 20-time English league champions, so as to get to the World Cup next year in the best possible shape. Only then will a call be taken.
“He is a player who is valued very highly by everyone and fans have shown him incredible affection in every game, as well as on the streets of Manchester.
“It’s a future at Manchester United with a lot of ambition. The club has signed very well and I think they will have a great season. What I can assure you is that this season you will see the best version of Casemiro.”
What happens then, only time will tell. For now, United fans will be hoping they can see the Brazilian leading from the front, starting on Sunday against the noisy neighbours.
