Senne Lammens is reportedly “close to joining” Manchester United with the club having a clear plan in place for the Royal Antwerp goalkeeper – and it is bad news for one of the existing shot stoppers at Old Trafford.
Bayindir over Onana
Ruben Amorim is set to start Bayindir for today’s Premier League clash with Burnley at 3pm.
The Turkish goalkeeper was selected ahead of Andre Onana for both of United’s opening league games, making a costly error against Arsenal and looking unconfident when dealing with crosses against Fulham.
Onana was then reinstated for Wednesday’s trip to play Grimsby Town in the Carabao in a clear demonstration of whom Amorim favours with a host of other first-team players rested.
And the Cameroon international’s abysmal performance as United crashed out in humiliating fashion on penalties will have done nothing to change his manager’s mind.
Centre Devils reveals Bayindir is “expected to start once again today against Burnley and has been chosen over Andre Onana” despite his shaky performances in the league.
“Amorim openly supported Bayindir despite the mistake that resulted in the goal against Arsenal, highlighting his faith in the Turkish goalkeeper’s ability and long-term worth to the team.”
The report states Amorim holds Bayindir in “higher regard” than Onana and this preference is set to repeated at Old Trafford this afternoon.
Lammens will be first choice
United remain in the hunt for a new goalkeeper despite Amorim’s public backing of Bayindir.
Lammens, 23, enjoyed a superb campaign for Antwerp last season in the Belgian Pro League, racking up an incredible array of statistics.
Senne Lammens had both the most saves (127) and the highest save percentage (81.4%) in the Belgian Pro League last season.
He also conceded a remarkable 14.5 goals less than xG would predict. That’s even better than David de Gea’s 17/18 campaign!

The Belgian U-21 international’s performances have attracted the attention of clubs across Europe with Manchester City, Inter Milan and Galatasaray all expressing interest.
But it is United who look set to win the red-hot race for the 6’3 shot stopper with Centre Devils contending a deal is “close”.
The report reveals the expectation at Old Trafford is for Lammens to be the “first-choice keeper when he walks in, given the team’s struggles.”
But he will be competing with Bayindir, not Onana, for the number one jersey as Amorim will seemingly demote the Cameroonian to third-choice if Lammens arrives.
