Manchester United’s stance on making a move for disgruntled Newcastle striker Alexander Isak has come to light.
United ramp up striker search
United are intensifying their efforts to sign a new striker ahead of the upcoming 2025/26 season. Regularly scoring goals was a big problem for the team last term and solving this issue was the club’s top priority heading into the window.
The Red Devils have partly addressed this by completing deals for Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo respectively.
But, United are also expected to secure the services of a top-class striker and having missed out on first-choice target Liam Delap, who opted to join Chelsea instead, Ruben Amorim’s side have been forced to cast a wider net.
United continue to be linked to the likes of Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa), Jean-Philippe Mateta (Crystal Palace), Benjamin Sesko (RB Leipzig) and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Earlier on Thursday, it emerged that Isak had informed Newcastle that he wants to leave in search of a fresh challenge. Naturally, with United on the hunt for a talisman, there was speculation and excitement that they could perhaps get into the ring for his signature.
Isak wants out of Newcastle
It’s understood Isak has informed the Magpies that he wants to explore his options this transfer window.

The Swede has not handed in an official or formal transfer request but is now looking to leave, amidst strong rumours that he is on the radar of Liverpool and the Saudi Pro League.
Newcastle don’t want to sell Isak, who is valued at £150m, but they may be forced to let him go if he continues agitating for an exit. There have been conversations about a new contract to extend his stay at St James’ Park but nothing is advanced at the moment.
United’s stance on pursuing Isak
According to Chris Wheeler of the Daily Mail, United are not planning to get involved in the Isak saga because the operation is simply too expensive.
Wheeler wrote on X, “Man Utd rule out a move for unsettled Newcastle star Alexander Isak and other expensive options like Benjamin Sesko and Nicolas Jackson as they struggle to afford a new striker after spending more than £130m on Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha.”

This has been corroborated by the Manchester Evening News’ Samuel Luckhurst.
“Manchester United are unlikely to move for striker Alexander Isak despite his apparent desire to leave Newcastle.”
“United sources do not expect the club to explore the possibility of signing Isak, who is reputedly valued at £150million by Newcastle. A separate source said there was ‘no chance’ of United going for Isak.”
Isak scored 23 goals and provided an additional six assists in 34 Premier League games last term.
