Bryan Mbeumo is poised to have his Manchester United medical this weekend, David Ornstein has confirmed.
After weeks of negotiations and frustrating delays, United have finally struck a deal with Brentford over Mbeumo’s switch to Old Trafford.
At the start of the window, Mbeumo made it clear that his wish was to join United, amidst interest from other suitors. An agreement over personal terms was then reached before United proceeded to table an opening bid, which was immediately turned down by Brentfoed.
The Red Devils returned with an improved offer but to the surprise of many, this too was rebuffed by the Bees.
It later emerged that Brentford had raised their valuation of Mbeumo after seeing players like Anthony Elanga and Mohammed Kudus, who hadn’t scored nearly as many goals, secure moves for fees similar to what United had put on the table.
The London club held out for a total package of £70m, which United matched on Thursday by sending in a third offer.
Earlier today, news broke that Brentford have accepted the offer and Mbeumo will become a United player.
United will pay an initial £65m, to be paid in four instalments, plus an additional sum of £6m in bonus payments.
Fabrizio Romano noted that Mbeumo will put pen to paper on a five-year contract with United, with the option of extending by an additional 12 months.
Now, David Ornstein has revealed when Mbeumo will have his medical.
“It is expected that Mbeumo will undergo a medical this weekend ahead of completing his move to Old Trafford.”
“The 25-year-old prioritised United over all other clubs if he was to leave Brentford and his transfer is now in the process of being finalised.”
Meanwhile, United are back in action on Saturday when they take on Leeds United in a pre-season friendly in Stockholm, Sweden.
