Jadon Sancho is nearing an exit from Manchester United, this time on a permanent basis.
Sancho has been on the fringes of the first team at United ever since he publicly fell out with Erik ten Hag in late 2023.
In the January transfer window of that season, he returned to Borussia Dortmund on loan to regain his form and confidence. Despite his promising performances, especially in the Champions League, the Bundesliga giants decided against signing him permanently.
United then struck a deal with Chelsea, allowing them to sign the Englishman on loan with an obligation to buy. However, they handed the Blues a clause to back out of the deal. Chelsea did exactly that after Sancho refused to lower his wage demands.
The 25-year-old, who cost United around £73 million in 2021, has once again become a major cause of concern for the club’s recruitment team, as his hefty salary has so far proven to be a huge obstacle for his suitors.
Juventus closing in on Sancho
Juventus, however, have shown a great resilience in their pursuit and appear to be inching closer to securing his signature.
According to Italian journalist Marco Giordano, Sancho’s agent, Emeka Obasi, is in Turin to iron out the details of his switch to Serie A.
It is claimed the deal is “sealed” at €15m between United and Juventus, with the Premier League giants ready to pay a severance package to the forward.
Giordano adds that a medical is possible by the end of the week for Sancho.
Sancho transfer may help Amorim’s rebuild
It is mid-July and United have managed to only make one signing, having triggered Matheus Cunha’s release clause at Wolverhampton Wanderers early in the summer.
Ineos are also trying to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford but Sir Jim Ratcliffe is refusing to bow down to their exorbitant price-tag.
United’s transfer budget for this summer transfer window is understood to be limited. As such, the sales of Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, and Antony would ease the club’s financial concerns and allow them to hand Amorim more players.
