United approach Champions League club over deal for Amorim’s dream striker – Sky Sports

Manchester United have made a move for Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres, as per Sky Sports.

INEOS appear determined to take Ruben Amorim’s attacking options to the next level on the back of a frustrating campaign.

Among non-relegated sides, only Everton scored fewer goals than the Red Devils, as the likes of Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho failed to deliver on a regular basis.

Despite their tight budget and the absence of European football, the club’s hierarchy at Old Trafford are showing a commendable level of ambition to improve United’s frontline.

The Mancunians have already agreed a deal to sign Matheus Cunha from Wolves, and have convinced Bryan Mbeumo to leave Brentford for a move to Manchester despite interest from Arsenal and Newcastle United.

Now, it has emerged that United have started exploring the possibility of handing Gyokeres to Amorim.

According to Sky Sports, United have made an initial approach for the Sweden international through intermediaries.

It is claimed the Premier League giants are exploring the “conditions of a potential deal.”

Amorim is understood to be a big admirer of the Swede, having signed him for Sporting from Coventry City in 2023. The pair enjoyed success together by winning the Primeira Liga title in 2024.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old has gone on to establish himself as one of Europe’s most prolific strikers. This season alone, he has 54 goals and 13 assists to his name in 52 appearances across all competitions.

Sky Sports suggest United intend to sign a new striker regardless of Hojlund’s future. The Dane has failed to find his feet in England and is attracting interest from Serie A clubs.

However, the 22-year-old has insisted he is not considering to leave United just two years after joining the club from Atalanta.

The arrival of a goal-machine like Gyokeres would not only instantly improve Amorim’s attack but also take some pressure off Hojlund, who is clearly not ready to spearhead the line.
