United plotting to stun Europe by triggering the release clause for Champions League top scorer – Sky

What has really let Ruben Amorim down since he took over the reigns at Manchester United is the lack of goals with his attacking stars continuing to misfire.

Rasmus Hojlund has been the biggest culprit with the Dane managing a meagre three Premier League goals all season and the head coach has had enough and wants him gone in the summer.

As far as replacements are concerned, a couple of swap deal options could be on the cards including Juventus’ Dusan Vlahovic and Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman.

Recent reports have suggested that the Red Devils want neither and are focussed on trying to land Liam Delap of Ipswich Town and Wolverhampton wanderers forward Matheus Cunha.

Striker hunt

The club also have their eyes on Victor Osimhen, if they can afford him, while Europa League victory could also open up the possibility of landing Serhou Guirassy of Borussia Dortmund.

The Guinean has been on fire for the Bundesliga giants, netting 29 goals and registering eight assists in only 37 starts across competitions.

🚨Only a few European clubs can trigger Serhou Guirassy’s release clause after the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.

In fact, he has a goal involvement roughly every 93 minutes and is the top-scorer of this Champions League with an impressive 13 goals in 14 games, including a hat-trick against Barcelona.

Dortmund are desperate to keep a hold of him and make him the centre-piece of their rebuild but the 29-year-old has a release clause in the region of €70 million which can be triggered by select European giants, which includes United.

Guirassy on the club’s radar

As per Sky reporter Patrick Berger, seven teams including five from England can trigger the ex-VfB Stuttgart striker’s release clause after the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.

“Only a few European clubs can trigger Serhou Guirassy’s release clause after the FIFA Club World Cup this summer.

“According to our information those clubs are: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal,” the journalist wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Guirassy has no intention of departing and is grateful for Dortmund’s trust in him given his injury problems. But the ball is not in his or Dortmund’s court.

Should any team offer the money needed, and pay the striker’s wages, he could be off. Whether the 20-time English league champions do so remains to be seen. He does not fit INEOS’ age profile but stranger things have happened.
