United icon cautioned by police after admitting to breaking the law – report

Manchester United legend Nicky Butt has been handed a caution by the police after admitting to headbutting a security board during his 50th birthday party.

The Sun reports that Butt is alleged to have attacked the guard during his 50th birthday celebration at Soho Farmhouse near Great Tew, Oxfordshire.

The lunch was held on January 24, three days after Butt turned 50, and was attended by a number of his former United teammates including David Beckham, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes.

It’s understood the group had dinner in a private room before moving on to the bar. Between 7pm and 8pm, Butt reportedly stepped out into a courtyard, where a security guard saw him urinating against a wall. A confrontation followed, during which Butt allegedly headbutted the guard, causing bodily harm.

The guard was treated in hospital for facial injuries and took time off work to recover. He has since returned.

A source told The Sun, “There was blood everywhere. People were shocked as the guard came inside with his face a mess. It ruined a lovely day.”

A statement from Thames Valley Police read, “The investigation has now concluded.”

“A man was given a caution for the offence of ABH.”

A police spokesman previously relayed, “An assault at a business premises in Great Tew was reported to Thames Valley Police at about 9.15pm on January 24. It is alleged that a man assaulted a member of security.”

“Thames Valley Police is conducting a thorough investigation, including taking a statement from and supporting the victim, obtaining and reviewing any CCTV available and taking witness statements. No arrests have been made at this time.”

Butt is said to have agreed to make a donation to charity.

The former defender made 387 appearances for United between 1992 and 2004. He helped the club win six Premier League titles, three FA Cups and a Champions League.
