Price slashed by €20m for “exceptional” creative force who would be perfect successor to Bruno Fernandes – report

Manchester United are looking at recruiting a creative midfielder for their squad in the summer as Ruben Amorim looks to add goals after what has been a dismal season for the Red Devils.

Christian Eriksen is expected to leave upon the expiration of his current deal while Amad, who has excelled as a No 10, could be shifted to wingback upon his return from injury.

Both Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho‘s futures remain up in the air but the biggest blow could come from the possible sale of Bruno Fernandes, who is a target for Real Madrid.

Which is why INEOS are monitoring potential replacements should the club captain depart, which will be against the head coach’s wishes.

Attacking midfielder wanted

Brentford’s Mikkel Damsgaard has emerged as a surprise target while Eberechi Eze has also been mentioned as a possible solution. But as per TBR Football, a long-term United target could become available in the summer.

Xavi Simons has long been linked with a move to Old Trafford but his humongous price tag was enough to dissuade the 20-time English league champions from a concrete approach.

But as per journalist Graeme Bailey, RB Leipzig are open to letting the 21-year-old leave and his price has been slashed from €80 million to €59 million with the player himself open to a new challenge.

And given the financial constraints INEOS are operating amidst, such a steep price reduction could make the difference between a possible deal materialising or not.

“TBR Football can exclusively reveal that Xavi Simons is ready to leave RB Leipzig in the summer. Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Newcastle United have all been linked with the Dutchman’s signature.

Simons price drop

“RB Leipzig are willing to let the former Paris Saint-Germain midfielder leave but their asking price is currently set at £50 million.

“TBR Football understands that a next move involving Simons is being worked upon by his representatives and intermediaries.”

The “exceptional” talent has eight goals and six assists in 27 games, while last season he had 10 goals and 14 assists. He can play not only as an attacking midfielder but also out wide if needed.

Ideally, United do not lose Fernandes and can recruit Simons to play alongside the new striker. But whether the co-owners can splurge so much on a midfielder after bringing in a striker will be interesting to see.
