RB Leipzig star looks certain to be sold this summer, 22-yo United man earmarked to replace him – report

Rasmus Hojlund’s agents are reportedly putting in the groundwork for a summer departure for the Manchester United striker, who is attracting interest from Germany and Italy.

With the summer transfer market shaping up to be a revolving door for strikers moving across Europe, Hojlund could find himself whisked to the Bundesliga where RB Leipzig are keeping tabs on him.

According to TBR Football, the Red Bull side see him as a potential replacement for United target Benjamin Sesko, who is likely to be on the move in the summer.

Sesko continues to be linked with the Red Devils who supposedly only settled for Hojlund in the first place as they couldn’t get a deal done for the Slovenian striker two years ago.

Bayer Leverkusen and Mainz – whose in-form striker Jonathan Burkardt is reportedly also on United’s shortlist – are also said to be monitoring the player and could bring him to the Bundesliga to complete a hat-trick of Hojlunds.

Rasmus’ twin brothers Oscar and Emil both play in the German top-flight, for Eintracht Frankfurt and Schalke, respectively.

The 22-year-old has been at the sharp end of United’s dreadful season, scoring only three Premier League goals so far and looking generally devoid of confidence.

His goal drought ended against Leicester City on Sunday, and while it may be the catalyst for a strong end to the season even that could be too little too late.

The Peoples Person covered reports yesterday that United are not looking to offload the player, but TBR Football claim that his own entourage are exploring options for a new club.

According to their report the youngster’s representatives are “keen” on returning him to Serie A, where he broke through with Atalanta, and see Italy as “a good solution” for him to turn his form around.

His “stock in Serie A remains very high” and two top clubs could turn to him as replacements for outgoing strikers – Juventus for Dusan Vlahovic and Napoli, already known to hold an interest in him, for Victor Osimhen.

And with United keen on the wantaway Nigerian goalscorer, a player-plus-cash deal is not beyond the realms of possibility.

The report notes that Hojlund is “aware of interest that exists in him and a fresh start is also under consideration” so nothing is ruled out, but if the player and club both want an Old Trafford stay, that is likely to happen.

Having unfairly been saddled with United’s famously heavy number 9 shirt while still learning his trade, his promising career risks fizzling out rather than exploding into life.

However, Hojlund has always seemed to be living his dream playing for his boyhood club even if it has been desperately painful for him at times, and it would be a surprise if he was trying to force his way out.

TBR Football back this up, claiming that “the young striker himself is determined to fight for his place – the Dane would ideally like to stay and fulfil his potential at Old Trafford.”

It seems, therefore, that Hojlund’s entourage are trying to do right by their client and understand the lay of the land should things not work out.
