United goalscorer “expected to leave” in the summer as Amorim not “convinced” he has what it takes to succeed – report

Manchester United thrashed Leicester City 3-0 on Sunday in what was Ruben Amorim’s biggest away win in the Premier League since taking charge.

What would have pleased the Portuguese tactician the most was the fact that key players have started performing again ahead of a season-defining month of April.

Rasmus Hojlund, without a league goal in 99 days, finally broke his duck in the first half and fans will be hoping the Dane can now get his act together again.

But as Talksport have now revealed, despite his return to form, the head coach still does not feel the 22-year-old fits in with what he wants from his team.

Rasmus on the chopping block

As a result, INEOS will still look to move on the former Atalanta starlet in the summer even though the player himself wants to stay at his dream club.

“Hojlund is now expected to leave the club in the summer despite having three years remaining on his contract.

“I think he’ll move on at the end of the season. I think there’s interest from Italy and I think Ineos and Ruben Amorim are not necessarily convinced that he’s the man to lead the line moving forward,” talkSPORT‘s Alex Crook told Inside Devils.

A return to Italy could be on the cards with Napoli said to be one his suitors. Whether they can afford his €60 million asking price is a different question altogether.

But this could present the 20-time English league champions with a great chance on getting their hands on Victor Osimhen, who is currently on loan at Galatasaray.

While his wage demands could prove to be a problem, the Nigerian is currently earning €192,308 gross per week in Turkey (via capology) and INEOS could be prepared to agree a deal for a bit higher than that.

Crook even suggested the possibility of a swap deal even though it currently looks quite complicated. But that should bring the price down to an acceptable range.

Swap deal?

“I think (Victor) Osimhen is the most likely because I think he’s going to be available for the type of price that United can afford.

“I think his wage demands have come down from where they were a year ago, obviously he’s been playing in Turkey, and I think he has that proven pedigree.

“So it wouldn’t surprise me if Hojlund goes back to Italy, and there’s interest from the likes of Napoli I’m told, and Osimhen comes in the opposite direction.”

Whatever happens, Hojlund simply cannot be trusted to lead the line on his own and United must bring in reinforcement to either support him or replace him.
